Last week, Port Macquarie Steiner School was delighted to welcome Lyn Clifton, from Developing the Self, Developing the World…
She introduced us to such a special gift for our times, Sphagnum, created into lotion and used as a protective layer on the young child.
The room was totally transformed into a gentle space, imbued with the beautiful fragrance of rose, and parents were lifted into a very inspiring place.
The morning began with a welcoming cup of warm Chamomile and Rose Geranium teas, picked fresh from the garden. Lyn took us on a practical, hands on journey, showing parents how and when to use Rose and Lavender Sphagnum on our children, used as an external application on limbs and torso with wash cloths, or used in the bath or footbaths.
Lyn shared with us this wisdom as a healthy way to bring in caring, gentle ways into your home rhythm…
🌸 On waking up, share a pot of lovely herbal tea in the morning.
🌸 Apply a gentle morning face cloth wash – a chance to connect, maybe sing or hum a little tune… ~ Morning has come, night is away, rise with the sun and welcome the day ~… (See instructions below)
🌸 A little Rose Sphagnum rubbed onto your child’s hands and arms.
🌸 Time to get dressed and eat breakfast.
🌸 Again in the evening, face cloths can again be applied.
Facecloths should be luke-warm, even in the summer, we are still working with the quality of Warmth with the young child, (all year round).
Lavender Sphagnum can be used for calming at bedtime routines, especially when the summer draws us out so much. Rose helps to create a sense of harmony.
Method for using Sphagnum for wash cloths:
Add a desert spoon of the lotion into a mug of hot water, until the wax melts. Add one cup of milk and pour into a bowl (or bath tub) of warm water. Agitate using your hand in a figure-8. Soak the wash cloth, squeeze and apply to the face, neck, back of neck and arms.
When using in the bath, be sure to fill the bath generously so that the child is immersed in water and the Sphagnum can work over the whole body.
We thank Lyn for her time and hope everyone who was fortunate to attend, was able to take something special away from this workshop.
If you missed out and would like to purchase some Sphagnum, please contact email@example.com.
