A Quick Update about Water Conservation Efforts and Activities

Mill Creek Diversion, Maintenance Prepare for Future Recharge

San Bernardino Valley Water Conservation District has been busy preparing the wash for next winter, when returning surface water flows bring the opportunity for a new season of groundwater recharge into the basin. Recently completed work includes annual maintenance of the Mill Creek diversion and canals, basin cleaning, as well as the repair of eroded gates and a levee in the Santa Ana spreading grounds.

Wash Plan, Groundwater Council Praised by Local Media

The Highland Community News recently sat down with General Manager Daniel Cozad and Land Use Manager Jeff Beehler to discuss progress with the local Wash Plan and other conservation efforts that are underway. The article describes how collaboration is leading to better outcomes for our local groundwater supply, habitat conservation and our local economy. The newspaper also printed an editorial in support of the region's newly formed San Bernardino Basin Groundwater Council.

Construction Continues on Recharge Sedimentation Basin

Construction of the sedimentation basin near Seven Oaks Dam is making progress, with the first phase of pipeline construction now complete and concrete work and electrical service now taking place. Work on the project is expected to continue through August. Once completed and connected to enhanced recharge basins in 2020, this work will significantly increase the amount of water we are able to collect and store underground. (See photo below.)


California Closer to Awarding $2.7 Billion to New Water Storage

The California Water Commission is expected to announce the distribution of funding this month -- four years after voters approved the Prop. 1 water bond, which has drawn applications for projects throughout the state.
