Spring 2018
WPSA Highlights
There was glitz, glamour and a whole lot of dance action earlier this month at Strictly Westbury Park 2018. Our Strictly couples shimmied and twirled to put on a dazzling show. And then they did it again (with slightly sore heads) for SWP Kids the next day. The results are in and between them, the events raised OVER £13,000!!

An amazing total, well done all those who made this extravaganza happen.  You can read more about this fabulous event in the full review below.

The cake sales last term were also great fundraisers with the Reception cakes achieving record sales!!

Money raised by the WPSA last term has been used to refurbish the boys toilets near Y5 in recent months; all the toilet blocks will be finished by the end of the school year.

Funds have also paid for the fantastic enrichment days this year, and some new sports equipment. The school would love to hear your ideas for how to spend WPSA funds in the future, so if you or your children have suggestions please get in touch at

WPSA Events This Term

Monday 7th May - Redland May Fair

As usual, the school will have a stall at the May Fair in Redland Green Park, run by Y6.  Please show your support by making Jolly Jars and/or cakes to sell.

Jolly jars can be left in WHOOP on Thursday May 3rd or you can bring jars and cakes to the stall on the day. And of course do come along to the Fair on Bank Holiday Monday, it's a lovely community event. Thanks in advance for your support.

Friday 11th May - parents' quiz night

The ever-popular WPSA quiz night fell victim to the Beast from the East earlier in the Spring, but now we're (ahem) into warmer weather, IT IS BACK!  The new date is Friday 11th May and there are only 2 tables left.  £30 a team (6 people) so enlist your most knowledgeable friends and email us if you would like to book a table.

(If you want to join one of the existing quiz teams, please get in touch as there are a couple of teams looking for some extra brain power!)

Friday 25th May Year 6 Table Top Sale
Roll up, roll up - don't miss the Year 6 Table Top Sale in the KS1 playground after school. This will be a great mini fete with cakes, lollies, toys, books, a nail bar and penny arcade games. Lots of fun and laughs for a great cause.

Friday 6th July - WESTFEST 2018

Plans are well underway for what has truly become the 'wrap party' of the summer term.  If you would like to be involved in helping with this fabulous end of year event, please email

As well as attending this brilliant school event, you can help to donate auction prizes – treatment days, holiday homes, ski chalets, balloon rides, experience days, luxury yachts or any ‘money can’t buy’ items! Do you have any friends or family members that have anything to donate? No prize is too small!  Please contact

Calling All Talented Parents! - There will be a
stage area again and we would love to have some more fabulous parent performances. If anyone is interested please contact Emma on the above email.

Lolly Sales Are Back For The Summer

SWP 2018 - The Sparkles & The Scores

In memory of Brian Webber, who loved to dance. 1932-2018 RIP.
A glitter bomb had well and truly exploded over Badminton school for the Saturday night SWP adults event.

Under the able compering of Jon Kay and Amanda Parr, 8 dancing couples were scored by a panel of expert judges made up of dance coach Michele Webber, Chair of Governors Rev Emma Langley, SWP 2015 contestant Mr Jones, and Gavin Ford, 2015 runner-up (and not at all bitter about it, honest).

Each couple danced their socks off to a movie theme.  Judges' scores were combined with sponsorship totals and donations on the night, and after a tense final
dance-off Yvonne and Alan Teece were awarded the coveted glitter ball trophy for their terrific Tango.
And there were further treats in store...unable to resist the pressure from the crowd, Mr Bamber threw his wife's cautionary advice to the wind and led staff members through a one-time-only dance performance of - what else? - La Bamba.

Heartfelt thanks to everyone who dedicated so much time, energy and commitment to SWP 2018. A special thanks to Michele Webber, for being the creative brains behind SWP and giving up so much of her time to coach our dancing couples; and to Mandy Webb for being the
force behind both events. Thanks also to SWP sponsors Prime Properties, Bristol Bookcase Company and Child Speech.

And of course thank YOU for your amazing support, whether you bought a ticket, drank the bar dry or sponsored a dancer.

Strictly: The Kids' Revenge
What's the best cure for glitter-induced over-indulgence on a Saturday night?

That's right, doing it all again on Sunday in front of 150 screaming children.

At the KS1 event Alex, Alice, Barney, and Sean were admirably thorough in their critiques, Sean immediately establishing himself as the Craig Revel Horwood of Y2.

The impartiality of the panel was severely tested when Lucy and Tom Payne tried to slip them some chocolatey bribes... but in the end Jon Kay's infallible and highly scientific cheer-o-meter device (on loan from the BBC apparently) pronounced Sabrina Tucci and Alex Earl as the winners with their Cha Cha Cha.

At the KS2 event Edmund, Ewan, Eva, and Monty made up quite possibly the bluntest Strictly panel ever to grace the stage.

They clearly relished the chance to finally tell their friends' parents what they've always thought. But the scores crept up and
Mrs Hann and Mr A took victory with their culinary-themed Salsa.

A huge well done to all the judges and dancers.

WPSA - Get Involved

Fancy getting involved in the WPSA and helping out the school? The uniform cupboard needs you! The current uniform reps are standing down and a replacement is needed. It's an easy job, just answering the odd sizing question from new parents, liaising with the supplier and opening the uniform cupboard for order collections. A full handover will be provided, so if you'd like to volunteer by yourself or with a friend then please contact the WPSA at the address above.

Meet the WPSA Committee

Jo Munsie has been Secretary of the WPSA for 4 years now. Her sons are in Y3 and Y5. Jo says: "As a teacher myself I can vouch for the importance of a strong PTA and the amazing contribution they can make to a school. It has been thoroughly enjoyable being involved in helping make amazing things happen around the school, such as enrichment days which have been a particular favourite. We are very lucky to have such a supportive and generous school community. And the socialising is of course an added benefit! I'm now looking forward to the next big event: WestFest. See you there!"
What is the WPSA?
The Westbury Park School Association is the fundraising arm of the school. Every parent is automatically a member of the WPSA, and meetings are open to anyone who would like to attend. It is governed by a committee of volunteers. The money the WPSA raises through its events is used by the school to give the children some great opportunities. In the last few years WPSA money has been used to improve the KS1 playground, pay for House enrichment sessions and provide musical and IT equipment, among many other things. If you would like to find out more about the WPSA or join the committee please come along to a meeting.
