Lane’s parking lot took center stage at the Local School Council meeting on Feb. 9, as Principal Edwina Thompson announced plans to resurface it and add concrete planters. This will help meet new construction codes. In addition, the Lane Professional Personnel Leadership Committee announced they are shelving block scheduling after multiple school surveys. A paint and sip event was hosted by the Black Student Association (BSA) on Feb. 8 in order to explore Black beauty and expression through art. It was led by Chicago artist Jessica Patterson. This was one of the many events BSA hosted during Black History Month in order to give Black students the opportunity to reclaim their voices and identities. Reporter Kyla McLemore goes into further detail on this and the goals that drive these events and the association.
