Your monthly dose of IFSA Updates
Welcome to the IFSA Monthly Newsletter of February 2020!

Dear IFSA Family,

Hello to all!

The Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has declared 2020 as the International Year of Plant Health, reminding us of the importance of plant health for ending hunger, reduce poverty, protect the environment and the increasing role of climate in shaping patterns of pests and diseases.

There is no denial that forests are equally critical ecosystems that contribute to world's climate, habitats for species, sustain indigenous people, provision of water and other ecosystem services. As foresters, we need to reinforce the fundamentals and keep working on such issues.

IFSA as a youth organization paves way for the forestry student community to learn and realize the significance of forests through exciting events such as the Southern European Regional Meeting (SERM) 2020 in Serbia and the International Forestry Students' Symposium (IFSS) 2020 to be held in Quebec, Canada this year. To further spread the IFSA spirit and work on our strategies, the Interim is happening in Czech Republic early February! Read about it on our Social Media channels.

This newsletter carries details about the following events:

At the end of January, IFSA LCs from all over Germany gathered in south Germany for this year’s Germany Meeting. The Chiemgau alpine region provided the perfect setting to bring together 20 student representatives from different German Local Committees, such as Eberswalde, Göttingen, Freiburg, Freising, Rottenburg and Tharandt.

LC Freising organized a weekend full of sharing experiences, learning and discovering the German Alps. Walking, hiking and sledging along the winter mountain landscapes, a focus was set on contemporary topics in Bavarian mountain forestry, such as the regeneration of protective forests and grazing rights.

Exchange of Experts, Sardinia – March 2020

Dear IFSA World,

From 24th March to 27th of March you have an amazing opportunity to join an International Exchange of experts on Rural Economy Development to Support and Increase Landscapes and Forests Resilience in Central Sardinia.

During 4 days, participants from across Europe will exchange experiences about effective land management techniques that aim at developing sustainable local bio-economy and support risk reduction.

The camp will be a great opportunity to participate in the discussions on how to generate added value in rural environments, as a combination of agriculture, tourism, forestry and grazing, all with the ultimate purpose of taking local action to enhance risk mitigation, rather than waiting for a response to natural disasters. The camp is also an opportunity to get hands-on experience on a combination of techniques used for management of Mediterranean landscape and forest (i.e. prescribed fire).

If you are interested in fire ecology and you have a profile in forest fires, do not hesitate and apply!

Apply until 10th of February.
