IFSA 2019 New Year Special

Message from the IFSA Board

In this Issue, we will look back from starting of our term and recap on some of the highlights in 2018.

A lot has happened since the International Forestry Students' Symposium held in Mexico last year in August, IFSA board members started their busy life by having a board to board changeover meeting in Greece. Not only they successfully defined their roles and working culture, they also broke down the long term 2018-2022 IFSA Strategy into a 2018/19 working plan.
Photo was taken in Greece with members of IFSA Board.

IFSA Internal Meeting Highlights in 2018

Some IFSA officials come together in Italy and Germany to have several extended board meetings, notably the meeting with:

Capacity Development Commission

The commission worked on the their commitments for the year during the meeting. Furthermore, they started to plan IFSAs involvement at the upcoming IUFRO World Conference in Curitiba, made progress on the guidelines for delegations, delegation leaders as well as a cultural competency guidelines for Organising Committees of IFSA events.

External Affairs: liaison officers and International Policy Commission

IFSA liaison officers and International Policy Commission came together and worked on ways to improve the knowledge transfer in IFSA during their meeting in Bonn. Moreover, they also laid the foundation for IFSAs engagement at the International Day of Forests (IDF), which will be on the 21st of March 2019 with the theme of 'Forests and Education - Learn to love Forests!'

IFSA Global Family

We are proud to announce that  we have now  reached 129 Local Committees from 56 Countries! Notably, in Latin America region, we are so glad to see many LCs have been established, in which is certainly due to the Memorandum of Understanding that IFSA signed with ALECIF (Asociación Latinoamericana de Estudiantes Forestales) in Costa Rica in November 2018.

Thank You Note to Caryl Barquila

Caryl Barquilla previously served as the External Affairs Councilor, we would like to thank her for all the contributions that she has made during her term.

This year we met in Ireland, at Waterford Institute of Technology, home of one our newest members. Many topics were covered in 5 days of intense work, including a new structure for the website, how we can increase the value of IFSA for its members, how to improve our internal and external communication and planning for International Day of Forests celebration and the IUFRO conference in Curitiba.
