Happy new year! 

We hope you have had a peaceful Christmas break. Welcome to 2022 and our fortnightly newsletter for current and future volunteers.  
In this edition:

Step out this new year
East Surrey Walking for Health offers free guided walks of between 30 and 90 minutes around the East Surrey area, every day, Monday to Friday.  Walking is good for physical and mental well-being, and can also be a great way to meet people.  Walks are open to everyone, no need to book, just arrive ten minutes before - details are on the YMCA East Surrey website.  They are also always looking for Volunteer Walk Leaders

🐶 Are you confident with dogs?  Canine Partners is in need of Puppy Parent or Foster Carers.  Puppy Parent volunteers have an 8 week old puppy placed with them, and they live with them at home for approximately one year.  Volunteers are also needed for holiday cover or for when people need time off.

⛺ 34 Reigate (Meadvale) Scouts are in need of enthusiastic Beaver Scout Leaders for children aged 6-8 years.  Help to run a flexible fun programme of games, activities, craft, outdoor adventure and more. 

🧸 The Children's Trust Tadworth is looking for Drivers to take and bring back children and their carer to hospital appointments, events or on a day out.  Destinations vary so flexibility is important.  Read Mike's story to find out more about volunteering as a Driver.

👥 Volunteer Mentors are needed to support adults, young people and families in Surrey.  Surrey Care Trust's next course for Volunteer Mentors is on Wednesday 2 February, 9.30am - 5.30pm, in Bletchingley.

🚜 Surrey Young Farmers is looking for Volunteer Leader/Assistants for their Thursday night Merstham Youth Club to support weekly term time activities such as go karting, countryside walks, farm visits, sports evenings, and craft evenings.

📱 Be My Eyes is a free mobile app which connects blind and low-vision individuals with sighted volunteers from all over the world through a live video call.  As a Sighted Volunteer you help by installing the Be My Eyes app and assisting people with anything from checking expiry dates, distinguishing colours, reading instructions or navigating new surroundings.

🧶 HeadWrappers is a free service providing practical support for adults experiencing hair loss as a result of cancer treatment. They are looking for Knitters to provide:
  • Knitted two headed dolls which are given out free to mothers and grandmothers who want help to explain hair loss to a young child.
  • A wide knitted headband which can be worn if the hair is just thinning, or worn over a base cap to keep out the winter chill.
☎️ Age UK Surrey's Volunteer Check in and Chat service is for older people so they can enjoy chatting with someone over the phone, all in the comfort of their own home.  Volunteers call an older person and chat for around half an hour at a time which suits both volunteer and older person.  You will be matched with a person who has similar interests to you. 
Join thousands of women and men as they walk through the night in the London LIVE MoonWalk, raising money for breast and other cancers.  Starting on the evening of Saturday 14 May, either join the walkers or volunteer as a member of the crew - there are different shifts throughout the event, up until the following Sunday afternoon.
St Catherine's Hospice have places on the London landmarks half marathon, the London and Brighton marathons, and the Brighton Marathons 50k bike ride. They are also offering places on a Sahara trek.
YMCA East Surrey are holding another Fun Run for adults and children in Priory Park, Reigate on 1 May. They also have places on two long distance overseas cycling events, to Bruges in June and across the Pyrenees in July.  
An Introduction to Bereavement Support
Friday 14 January, 10am to 12.30pm

Participants will learn about the role of a bereavement support volunteer and the skills required to perform the role. They will identify the benefits of the role and the challenges. They will learn a little about grief including the grief cycle and the symptoms of grief.  Book online.
