Volunteer News
Here is this week's selection of volunteer roles.  Click on the opportunity title to find out more.   If you are interested, then you can make a "Quick Enquiry" using the black button. 

🌳 The Gatton Trust runs an environmental education centre near Reigate.  They are looking for a Volunteer Office Manager and Assistant to help with taking bookings, administration, and producing materials.  Times are flexible. 

🏘️  Transform Housing provides housing and support for vulnerable people.  They are looking for Befrienders for an hour a week, to help reduce loneliness.  Training is provided. Transform is also looking for a Handy Person, with strong DIY skills,  to carry out maintenance tasks on an ad-hoc basis.

🏃🏽  The Children's Trust - Volun 'cheers' are needed at the London Marathon 2021 on Sunday 3rd October 8am - 2pm.  There are lots of roles for volunteers to get involved with including Set Up and Operation Volunteers, After Party Assistants and Cheer Team.

🧓🏽 
Volunteering Matters Grandmentors (aged 50+) are needed in Surrey to support young people (aged 16-24) as they navigate life after being in care.   This project harnesses the energy, skills, and experience of older volunteers to help build the confidence and self-belief of their mentees.  

🥔  Merstham Community Facility Trust needs Community Fridge Volunteers who are able to commit two hours per week.  The Community Fridge is a local initiative that reduces food waste and enables food to be shared within the community.

🚸 Family Voice Surrey is an independent charity that enables the voice of Parents and Carers of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to be heard in the provision of Health, Education and Social Welfare services.  Family Voice is recruiting Trustees and is looking for people with a range of skills, backgrounds and experience.  Board meetings are 4 times a year, online.  (Note these roles may be suitable for employee volunteering.)

🧑‍🤝‍🧑  Richmond Fellowship is looking for Support Group Facilitators to help people experiencing mental ill-health.  Volunteers will facilitate a weekly structured peer-support group, (online at present), providing a safe welcoming place for people to meet, share their thoughts and gain support.


💃🏾  Bloomin' Arts is a performing arts charity for and by people who have learning disabilities. They are looking for volunteers who have a love of the arts, dance and drama to help workshop leaders and participants during their 'Express It' sessions.  (This role is based on the outskirts of Lingfield.)

📔  Action Tutoring is looking for Volunteer Tutors to support young people facing socio-economic disadvantage and challenging situations outside of the classroom.  Tutors offer empathetic support to build the confidence and academic skills of young people.  Tutoring can be face-to-face or online.

Age Concern Merstham, Redhill & Reigate
is an independent charity with a mission to promote the well-being of local people and to make later life a fulfilling and enjoyable experience.  Their activities include running a day centre offering social events and support, a Men's Shed (no women allowed!), a Computer Club and Befriending Service.


Volunteer roles with Age Concern Merstham Redhill Reigate
If you enjoy meeting older people, can you help with any of the following roles:
  • Day Centre Volunteers - the role involves chatting to members, helping to serve meals and refreshments, washing up, helping with activities.  YOu may also be asked to step in and help out as required.
  • Befrienders - provide emotional support and company to people who are feeling lonely and isolated; around one hour per week.  You will be carefully matched with an older person who shares similar interests and hobbies.  
  • Driver (Minibus) - required to drive a 9 seater Ford Tourneo.  (Can be driven with a standard driving licence). You will be collecting members from their homes and bringing them to the day centre, then taking them home later.
  • Escort for Minibus - you will be assisting the minibus driver to collect and drop off members.  This role involves helping clients on and off the bus and providing assistance with their mobility aids. 
Other Ways to Help Age Concern Merstham Redhill Reigate:
  • In Kind Donations - any pre-loved woodworking tools or unused timber is welcome for the Men's Shed; wool, material or art supplies are needed for craftwork projects
  • Attend the Comedy Night Fundraiser - 9 October, Nutfield £25 inc. buffet
  • Corporate partnerships and employee volunteering

Black Women Talk Trusteeship
Tues 14 Sept - 6 pm-7.30 pm (Virtual)
A panel event with black women sharing their experiences of trusteeship and tips on how to gain a position as a Trustee on a board.

Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults
Weds 22 Sept - 10 am-12.30 pm (Virtual)
An introductory Safeguarding workshop for volunteers working with ‘at risk adults’. Providing an introduction to safeguarding principles.

Scam Awareness Workshop 
Weds 5 October 2 pm - 3.30 pm (Virtual)
Run by Surrey Trading Standards, a workshop to highlight the latest scams and encourage you to raise the awareness of your friends and family.
