A PIVOTAL YEAR FOR OCJCR
This year as a result of COVID we were no longer able to meet face to face with refugees and asylum seekers. OCJCR pivoted from the Home Hospitality Program our network of volunteers provided to asylum seekers just been released from detention, to offering financial support for hotel rooms. In this way we continued to make a difference and ease their transition to freedom.
Last April OneOC took on OJCJR as one of its fiscally sponsored projects. Through this partnership we are growing our organization and identifying new ways to increase our impact.
With our Refugee Chef Test Kitchen pilot program put on hold after a promising start, and the Passover Refugee Seder postponed, a signature Coalition program held on Tisha b'Av became our first online event. This summer fundraiser raised $7,002 which we distributed to World Relief SoCal, the Haitian Bridge Alliance, and Home for Refugees; agencies with whom we work closely throughout the year. Thank you to all who donated and to our Coalition partners who made the program a grand success.
As 2020 comes to a close, we want to thank every one of you who attended our programs, provided home hospitality, contributed to our fundraisers and fall drive for asylum seekers, and advocated on behalf of refugees through letter-writing campaigns and phone calls to legislators. Your contributions mean the world to us and the refugee families and asylum seekers who benefit from your support.
Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor duo, all donations through December 31st, up to $3,600, will be matched dollar for dollar.
You can help us reach our goal to raise $7,200 by December 31 with a year-end gift.
With grateful hearts and optimism for 2021,
The OCJCR Advisory Council
