SUNDAY, JULY 18th | 4:00 P.M.

Please register in advance
This program is open to the entire community.

Join us for an introspective hour to mourn the losses of refugees, asylum seekers, and forcibly displaced populations, and to heed the call to 'Welcome the Stranger.'  On Tisha b'Av the Jewish people reflect and lament the losses suffered as a persecuted and displaced people many times over throughout history. At the same time we honor our obligation to help and connect with people who are currently suffering similar tragedies and are seeking refuge at our borders today.

What is Tisha b'Av? Why do we associate this day of mourning with refugees? Read more here to find out.
We are collecting 60 childrens' analog watches through July 23rd for the Nest in Tijuana run by PILAGlobal.  The watches will be given to refugee children as they are being taught to tell time. The Nest offers a peaceful refuge from the overcrowded living conditions that families endure as they wait for their immigration interviews at the U.S. border.

Watch donations for children ages 3-10 can be brought to the July 18th  We Cannot Walk Alone program, or purchased online through our Amazon Wishlist. Please purchase in time for shipment to arrive by July 23rd.

Welcome in Action: How U.S. congregations can support refugees
Wednesday, July 14 | 1:00pm - 2:00pm PT | Group Meeting

The Biden administration has raised this year’s refugee admissions numbers and laid the groundwork for increased capacity to welcome refugees in the years ahead. Historically, congregations around the U.S. have played an essential role in supporting refugee families as they integrate into their new communities, and the opportunity to resume that important work is a now tangible reality.

Join us to explore what congregational sponsorship of newly arriving refugees looks like. We will hear from HIAS resettlement staff and from two synagogues that have welcomed refugees to their communities in recent years.

This program is brought to you by HIAS in partnership with CCAR, Reconstructing Judaism, the RRA, the URJ, the RA, and the USCJ. Advance registration required.

Tell ORR to investigate and address inhumane conditions and abuse allegations at Fort Bliss
Add your voice: Demand that ORR immediately open a public investigation and address the allegations of sexual abuse, disease and parasite outbreaks, unsafe food, and long waits for medical care at the Fort Bliss emergency intake site to ensure that all children are housed in safe and humane conditions.

Tell President Biden: The U.S. must act to save our Afghan allies
Tell President Biden the clock is ticking: The U.S. must help our Afghan allies and their families who risked everything to support U.S. and NATO troops. The U.S. must ensure at-risk Afghans have access to other protection pathways, including through the U.S refugee resettlement program, the Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) program, and robust humanitarian assistance in countries that host large numbers of Afghan refugees.
