We are delighted to welcome our first family from Afghanistan pictured here with their OCJCR-Home For Refugees volunteer team and coach. The team will accompany this family (of seven) who arrived from Kabul as part of the Operation Allies Rescue evacuation operation, and were placed in Camp Fort Bliss in Texas for over two months before coming to California. Volunteer team members will be helping the family set up their new apartment this week, assisting with job searches, ESL classes, providing transportation and driving lessons, accompany them as they go through the asylum process, and more.

Director Yasmin Gorenberg joins us in conversation about her newest film, 40 Nickels. We will watch the short film together on Zoom, immediately followed by Q & A. We'll have the unique opportunity to learn about the artistic process Yasmin used in creating the work and what biblical texts and poetry influenced scenes from the film.
Based on her grandfather’s boyhood in St. Louis, Yasmin Gorenberg tells a story of pain and trauma passed from refugee parents to their children and the hope that can overcome it. It's a truly beautiful film and you are sure to enjoy it.
