SUNDAY, JULY 18th | 4:00 P.M.

Please register in advance
This program is open to the entire community.

Join us for an hour of introspection and reflection on the plight of
refugees and asylum seekers as we heed the call to Welcome the Stranger.

Speakers and participants include a Cameroon man granted asylum after a harrowing journey and nine months in detention in the US. We will also hear from Rabbis Heidi Cohen, Marcia Tilchin, Peter Levi, Joel Berman, and from other community leaders.

We will conclude with a hopeful look to the future as we share ways each of us can advocate, volunteer, and help make a tangible difference in the lives of asylum seekers and refugees arriving in our community and across the country.

What is Tisha b'Av? Why do we associate this day of mourning with refugees? Read more here to find out.
We are collecting 60 childrens' analog watches through July 23rd for the Nest in Tijuana run by PILAGlobal.  The watches will be given to refugee children as they are being taught to tell time. The Nest offers a peaceful refuge from the overcrowded living conditions that families endure as they wait for their immigration interviews at the U.S. border.

Watch donations for children ages 3-10 can be brought to the July 18th  We Cannot Walk Alone program, or purchased online through our Amazon Wishlist. Please purchase in time for shipment to arrive by July 23rd.

Pledge to #WelcomeWithDignity
Everyone has the right to be safe and everyone has the right to seek asylum. We are building a movement to reimagine the way our country and our communities treat people seeking safety. It is time to welcome asylum seekers with dignity. Will you join us?

Seeking asylum is a human right, but decades of policies decimated an already insufficient asylum system. The Welcome with Dignity campaign is committed to transforming the way the United States receives and protects people forced to flee their homes to ensure they are treated humanely and fairly. With your help, we will build a more just and truly humane asylum system and reject the xenophobia and racism that motivated the cruel and dangerous policies of the past.

Tell ORR to investigate and address inhumane conditions and abuse allegations at Fort Bliss
Add your voice: Demand that ORR immediately open a public investigation and address the allegations of sexual abuse, disease and parasite outbreaks, unsafe food, and long waits for medical care at the Fort Bliss emergency intake site to ensure that all children are housed in safe and humane conditions.

Tell President Biden: The U.S. must act to save our Afghan allies
Tell President Biden the clock is ticking: The U.S. must help our Afghan allies and their families who risked everything to support U.S. and NATO troops. The U.S. must ensure at-risk Afghans have access to other protection pathways, including through the U.S refugee resettlement program, the Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) program, and robust humanitarian assistance in countries that host large numbers of Afghan refugees.
