A Year to Remember

As we approach the end of 2017, we would like to take a moment to reflect on what Friends of Riverside ATX has accomplished and thank everyone who has taken time out of their busy schedules to make our organization a success.

At-A-Glance

As of this month, we have grown our organization to over 100 members, a group comprised of homeowners, renters, business owners and people who work in our community.
With our focus on family-friendly activities, we wanted to share a recap of a few of the events we hosted for the community this year:

First Annual Block Party

We kicked off 2017 with our very first block party with the help of multiple neighborhood businesses, the Austin Fire Department, Austin Police Department and many other key participants in the community.

Monthly Meeting Kickoff

State Representative Eddie Rodriguez and Council Member Sabino "Pio" Renteria spoke at our inaugural meeting about issues affecting our area. Throughout the year, we have had several guest speakers from the City attend our monthly meetings to inform us about current projects and future plans.

Happy Hours

Mour Café, our neighborhood café, has helped us host our past two happy hours. These well-attended events have been important as we have been able to get together face-to-face and share our vision for our neighborhood while expanding our network.

CodeNEXT Talk

As we all know, CodeNEXT has been the topic of the year. We decided to invite our very own land development consultant and neighbor, Ron Thrower, to help us decipher the code and explain how it affects our East Riverside area.

Improv Time!

This was probably one of the most exciting events of the year as we partnered with Austin Creative Alliance to host an improv workshop. We had a diverse group of attendees from all over Austin come together, make long-lasting relationships, and learn improv skills.

Neighborhood Walk

Earlier this year, we partnered with the Austin Police Department and Walk Austin to plan a neighborhood walk to highlight some of the areas in our neighborhood. We had a fun and educational walk where we learned about walkability and areas that need major improvements on East Riverside Drive.

Movies on the Hill

The Good Shepherd on the Hill has been a great partner in our community by facilitating their space whenever needed. This year, we partnered with The Element and Solaris apartments to organize and host two of our "Movies on the Hill" series for our neighbors and friends.
All that we have accomplished to date has been the result of efforts by our officers: Larry Sunderland, Camila Pulecio, and Noelle Shelly, as well as some dedicated member sponsors: Good Shepherd on the Hill Episcopal Church, Mour Cafe, Academy of Hair Design, Solaris Apartments, Taco More, Austin Police Department, Boost Mobile, Jim Young CCIM, Boost Mobile, and Presidium Group.

We hope you all will continue to support our community through our organization to help build a sustainable and resilient neighborhood.

We wish you all a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!
