Last Month

We would like to thank Sara Brooke Benjamin, the Environmental Monitoring Coordinator for the City of Bellingham, for her talk at our chapter meeting last month. She shared some really cool past, present, and future creek restoration and monitoring projects with us. Some of you had questions for her about getting involved in these projects. Please reach out to us at any time so that we can pass on her contact info.
Thanks again, Sara Brooke!

Another big thank you goes out to everyone who attended the Fly Fishing Film Tour Pre-funk hosted by Kulshan Brewery, The Confluence Fly Shop, and NSTU last month. You helped us raise money for the chapter just by drinking great beer! If only everything were that simple...

  • Our last chapter meeting before we take a three month hiatus will be May 8th at Brandywine Kitchen. Social hour starts at 6:30, meeting begins at 7. Speaker to be announced. Keep an eye on the NSTU Facebook Page for more updates.

  • The North Sound Women on the Fly are hosting their first ever Fly Fishing 101 workshop just for ladies. Expert angler, guide, and casting instructor, Molly Semenik, will be hosting a five hour introductory fly fishing course that will include rigging and knot tying, casting basics, and beginners entomology.  This class is $50/person and will be held at the Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association's campus in North Bellingham. Tickets are available through Eventbright and space is extremely limited, so jump on it!

  • Cory Cuevas, our Veterans Service Partnership chair, is putting together the second annual casting clinic and BBQ for veterans, active duty, military spouses, and their family members. This event was a blast last year, and we're looking forward to another fun day at Edgewater Park in Mt. Vernon. We'll keep you updated on the date for this event.

  • The Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association (NSEA) hosts work parties every Saturday in April at different locations all over Bellingham. These parties are a great way for the community to get involved in stream-side habitat restoration. Get outside, get some exercise, and help the salmon! The work party schedule can be found here.

Updates from Our Committees

Women's Initiative

We are so excited to announce our first ever Fly Fishing 101 Workshop taught by the incredible Molly Semenik. On June 2nd, at NSEA's North Bellingham campus, Molly will be covering the basics of fly fishing in this all day course. Tickets are available here, with some of the proceeds going back to NSWOTF for future events and conservation efforts.

In May, we will be hosting a meet-and-greet BBQ/potluck at Lake Padden. It's time for us all to shake off the dust, practice our casting, and maybe even wet some line.

For updates on these events, please head over to our North Sound Women on the Fly Facebook page. You can also email us any time at northsoundwotf@gmail.comWe'll get you on the email list or answer any questions you have about getting involved.
