Coming Up

Trash Fish

Join NSTU Treasurer and beach fishing fanatic, Brandon Sly, for a fun day of beach cleanup and fly fishing. On Sunday, July 22nd, we will be venturing over to Ala Spit on Whidbey Island to clean up the beach for an hour or so then we will spend the remainder of the day fishing the Spit for Searun Cutthroat.

As to not completely overrun the beach with anglers we will be limiting participation to 6 volunteers so signup early. We are hoping to make the Trash Fish a regular NSTU event throughout the year so if you have any ideas for a beach or stretch of river you would like to see cleaned up please let us know.

When: Sunday, July 22nd @ 11:00am till we are done fishing
Where: Ala Spit on Whidbey Island
Contact: Brandon with any questions or to signup

Good weather means it's time to get the kids out there!

From Our Committees

Veterans Service Partnership

It is with bittersweet recognition that we see Petty Officer First Class Cory Cuevas preparing for deployment this Fall and having to step down from his role with our Veterans Service Partnership program. Cory was the founding chair of the North Sound VSP and held several successful events in his time at the helm.  Cory reached out both to active duty military families as well as veterans, and in doing so put our chapter at the cutting edge of VSP programs nationwide.  Many thanks both for serving our country and NSTU.  We all wish you well in your upcoming travels.

Also, a thank you to Dave Kumlien, the national rep of the Trout Unlimited Veterans Service Partnership, for a conference call with folks interested in taking the reigns of our North Sound VSP.  We're looking forward to working together with new, young energy to keep bringing forward the mission of the VSP and Trout Unlimited!

Steelhead Spawner Survey Update

Surveys are done for the season and we’re compiling data.  Nick Chambers (from Wild Steelheaders United) and I downloaded the dataset yesterday for the temp loggers we installed in March in Day and Finney. We also moved them to a summer location where they’ll remain during low summer flows before we move them again.  Observed coho, chinook and steelhead fry in both creeks but especially Day.  Main creek channel temps are still comfortably cool, but any of the off channel stuff no longer connected to the main flow was cooking.

Member Survey

Please help us out by filling out the NSTU Member Survey.  What we do at North Sound Trout Unlimited would not be possible without our incredible membership, so we are genuinely interested in what our members have to say.

If you haven't yet had the opportunity to fill out our member survey, please do so here.

This survey helps us figure out where our members want their donations to go, as well as in planning future events and providing valuable educational opportunities.
