Coming Up
October Chapter Meeting
  • Ever used Google Maps? Ever thought about inventing something similar but for river systems? Well, we hate to tell you this, but someone beat you to it. FishViews maps and collects data - including underwater views, float routes, water parameters (depth, dissolved oxygen, ph, etc.) - on US waterways.
  • This month, Brian Footen, President of FishViews inc, will be speaking about his FishViews' river and Puget Sound mapping project, as well as how NSTU can get involved. For more info on FishViews, please visit their website.
  • Open to the public
  • Social hour at 6:30pm
  • Presenter at 7:00pm
  • Upstairs Mezzanine of Brandywine Kitchen, Bellingham, WA
Fish Trivia
  • Think you know a thing or two about fish? Don't play koi, come out to Stones Throw Brewery this month and prove it! Not a fish expert? We promise you don't have to be a brain sturgeon to have some fun.
  • Half the pot will go to support North Sound Women on the Fly's education and conservation efforts. The winning team will reel in the rest of the pot. Second place wins a round on us. Third place will enjoy some consolation pretzels.
  • Open to the public. The more the merrier.
  • $2 per person buy-in. Maximum 4 people per team.
  • Tuesday, October 16th
  • 6-8PM
  • See you at Stones Threw Brewery!
Coastal Cutthroat Coalition Partnership
NSTU is planning to focus some of our conservation efforts on coastal fisheries, and instead of repeating the great work that the Coastal Cutthroat Coalition (CCC) is already doing, we will be partnering with them. There are some cool projects being planned, and a couple of ways to get involved right now.

The CCC is doing a year long study of parasite infection of trout in the Puget Sound and you can help by fishing and reporting parasite data on the CCC website even if there are no parasites present. There has been very few reports filed from the north sound area so far, it would be nice to add data from this end of the sound to the study.

The CCC awards a prize every month to one of the participants that submits data in the parasite study and NSTU has agreed to support the study by providing Tacky fly boxes as the prizes for the rest of 2018. September and October prize boxes were filled with flies generously donated by The Confluence Fly Shop. We still have two boxes to fill for November and December, so if you would like to help by donating 12-18 flies for one of the boxes, please let us know.
