February 2022

Onyx Leadership Team

“If January is the month of change, February is the month of lasting change.

January is for dreamers.

February is for doers.”

What are you DOING this month? What are you striving to accomplish? January and the beginning of the new year allowed us to set the intention, and now as we move into February, we should be putting that intention to work. Last month we talked about focusing on the HOW for this year. How will you reach your goals for the year? What are the steps you are taking to get to said goals?

As February welcomes in Black History Month, it strikes two different places in our minds and hearts, but the root of it all is love. Black History Month, as we know, is all year round in our eyes, (put your fists up) but this month is the month America has decided to highlight us in all of our beautiful glory as a people. The celebration of love and life for Black people will never cease and as much as there is turmoil living in 2022, there is joy as well.

While we take the time to highlight positive and negative ideals for us throughout the month, it's important for us to remember to also stay grounded in who we know we are. We must remember that our thoughts affect the types of experiences we want to have throughout the month, so don’t fret, Onyx is here to provide the support you may need!

We asked and you delivered! We wanted to hear some of your favorite quotes from powerful Black voices, and a few that stood out were from the incomparable Maya Angelou and poetic beauty India Arie.

“No matter what anybody says - what matters most is what you think of yourself”

India Arie

“Do the best you can until you know better. When you know better, you do better.”

Maya Angelou

The theme for both of these quotes is self-care, something that we as people struggle with due to the innate trauma that runs through our veins. Although we have to work harder than our counterparts to take care of ourselves mentally, love and self-love are no stranger to us. While February represents the pride of Black people, it also brings us the day of love with Valentine’s Day. A day that can be a very stressful and upsetting holiday if we allow it to be, we want you to hold the power for how your day will transpire…whether you are single or in a loving relationship.

Here are some of our favorite examples of #blacklove <3

Iman Shumpert and Teyana Taylor give all the vibes for Black love and the Black family!

Are you looking for Black eternal sunshine? Londrelle and Dr. Shelly-Ann can give it to you!

Boris Kodjoe and Nicole Ari Parker are treasures in the Black community, and we cherish them.

Tabitha Brown is such a breath of fresh air, her energy exudes love and her husband Chance Brown is a pure extension of that love.
