Onyx Leadership Team

Greetings Onyx Family!!

We have made it to July.

Let’s first and foremost address the biggest topic of discussion at the moment - the overturning of Roe V. Wade. A monumental decision that has left all of us shocked and disheartened, and collectively grieving for the next chapter of women’s reproductive health, Dr. Plummer released a statement late last week saying,

"When a woman’s body is being controlled, there are also implicit desires to control her mind too.

Our generation knows more freedoms than those who have come before us… so the idea of controlled bodies and controlled minds is a form of slavery unfamiliar to us and deeply rooted in the fears of our ancestors experiences. We, as women, must give ourselves the space to grieve… to feel confused, hurt, scared, to acknowledge our loss and to deeply feel.

And then… we can plan. And then we can act. And then we can unify.

But unaddressed emotions will steer their heads and cause us to pause and retreat at the wrong time.

Grieve my sister. Take a moment to rest. And then let’s fight!"

While the last month, and most likely the coming ones, brought upon us a lot of trauma and uncertainty for the future, we must still journey ahead, now more than ever, towards the path to transformative healing. We all know that the desire for mental fortitude is what we want, but it is okay to be honest with ourselves and know that THAT this is the priority.

While we look forward to the future, we must also remember the past and not let our current events take away from the celebration of Pride Month. The Onyx team took the time to address issues in the LGBTQ+ community with Mental Health America, and Dr. Plummer received a profile piece in Tagg Magazine on Black queer mental health.

Gone are the days that we silence our voices and in July, and all the months to come, Onyx Therap Group screams from the rooftops!
