National Human Trafficking Awareness Month
Happy new year! 2021 is here, so now what? Hopefully you will take the insight you gained from 2020 and put it into action this year. It's our prayer that you become focused, intentional, and thriving!
1Peter 4:10 "As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace."
January is National Human Trafficking Awareness Month and the ribbon color for this cause is blue. Human trafficking is modern day slavery that has impacted over 40 million men, women, and children worldwide. This $150.2 billion dollar enterprise is the 2nd highest grossing criminal activity globally. Human trafficking victims are forced into sex and/or labor not just in other countries, but right here in the United States. The average age targeted and sexually exploited is 12-14 y/o. Do you know where your state ranks amongst human trafficking reported cases. According to the US State Department, Maryland ranks #15. We need your help to reduce and eradicate this horrible nightmare. Through the whole month of January, UYM has collaborated with several organizations to help educate and empower the community.
Our Founder and CEO, Jennifer Foxworthy was given the great honor once again to write an article for the entire front cover of the Roaring Wind Tribune. The RWT is a Christian newspaper based out of southern Maryland. Anyone can pick up a copy of this free and amazing paper at many grocery stores and churches. In addition, you can read the online version at: https://online.fliphtml5.com/ghpav/wkyj/#p=1.
Over the past few years, Unstoppable You Ministries has helped several human trafficking victims and survivors find the emergency services and supportive resources they needed. This month of January, UYM has collaborated with the YWCA of York, PA, MD State Human Trafficking Task Force, Faith Bible Church of Mechanicville, MD, as well as the Calvert County Commission for Women to shine the light on this horrible nightmare by using the Red Sand Project.
The Red Sand Project started in 2014 by Molly Gochman, who wanted to creatively bring attention to human trafficking. The red symbolizes the lives lost and filling in the cracks represents no one else should fall through cracks of receiving the much needed resources they deserve.
We are reaching out to our UYM Community and beyond (hotel managers, business owners church leaders, community leaders, educators, parents, guardians, social workers, health care professionals, legal professionals, advocates and any individual) to help us make a difference by filling in the cracks of the pavement. This symbolic gesture is a conversation starter to help educate people.
If you live in or around York PA and would like to participate, please contact Nikole Metz at firstname.lastname@example.org to get your red sand. If you live in southern Maryland and beyond in the U.S. and would like to participate, please contact us at email@example.com to get your packet of red sand. Below are the dates UYM will be supporting the Red Sand Project installation events in southern Maryland.
