Meeting the COVID-19 challenge – social impact and response in the County
2020 is an unprecedented year. Whether you’re a kid who’s wearing a mask while attending school, a business owner who’s worried about making rent or a caregiver looking after senior relatives, COVID-19 is a constant concern. This is why the County of Prince Edward engaged The County Foundation to prepare a research report on the socio-economic impact of COVID-19 on Prince Edward County.
 
From mid-March to the end of September 2020, the Vital Signs team of coordinator Anne VanVlack and researcher Judith Zelmanovits conducted one-on-one virtual interviews with more than 30 local community service providers. …how 178 donors are helping PEC people during COVID-19
Helping people. It's the foundation of what we do. In the midst of the province-wide lockdown to curb the spread of COVID-19, our board met virtually on March 23. Together, we established a fund to support the broader Prince Edward County community during this period of uncertainty.
 
The County Food Depot opened on Friday, April 17 at Picton Town Hall and continues to deliver boxes filled with fresh fruit, veggies, pantry staples and grocery cards every other Friday. Unfortunately, demand is growing during the darkest months of 2020… keep reading »
How almost 600 Alchemy artists meals
... brought vineyard workers together during COVID-19
Alchemy Artists food preparationHarvest season.  It’s always a special time of year, and during the challenging year that we’re all living through, celebrating the hard work of the harvest has become even more meaningful. And this is precisely what Alchemy Artist Residency collaborators Claire M. Tallarico and Tonia Di Risio set out to do this harvest season. Emily Cowan, community programs supervisor introduced Claire to The County Foundation. Claire notes, “We spoke with president Brian Beiles and quickly saw possibilities with the Foundation. Brian, in turn, connected us to Linda Downey, president of Storehouse Foodbank in Wellington, who was very receptive to becoming our charitable partner.” …keep reading »
How 33 municipal COVID-19 grants
…are delivering support to people in the County
The County Foundation is pleased to share the following news issued by the County of Prince Edward on November 12. 

Picton, ON – The municipality and The County Foundation have awarded funding to 33 community groups and organizations through the Municipal COVID-19 Recovery Grant program.
"These groups are at the heart of our community. Unfortunately, the pandemic has put undue hardship on them and really hampered their fundraising opportunities," Mayor Steve Ferguson says. "I am hopeful that this funding will help them get through the next several months so that they can weather the storm and continue to serve and enrich our community for years to come.".…keep reading »
Learn about Emergency Response, Senior Support and Mental Health in The County Connected
Safety. The world and The County are constantly changing. And, as change happens, so do the needs of people. Vital Signs research identified needs in 2018 and a safety and well-being program is responding. Together with local agencies and Vital Signs working group volunteers, people are fostering security.
