Greeting and Welcome
Prelude -
Jesus The Very Thought Of Thee

Centering Words
Advent is a time of waiting, a time to open our hearts to God’s presence, a time to pay attention to God’s call. God’s love breaks in over and over again. Be awake, for God is near!
Call to Worship
We are waiting for God!
For the birth of hope, for the arrival of peace.
We are trusting in God!
We prepare our hearts to receive his joy.
We are asking God to shape us!
So that our lives be ready for the coming of the Son!
We watch for the signs of renewal and restoration.
We know in our hearts that God is near!
Opening Prayer
Faithful God, like a shepherd, you care for us. Like a potter, you shape our lives. We are waiting for you to come down to us and light our spirits with eternal love. We are waiting for you to shape us with your hands, that we may be vessels fit to receive your presence. Amen.
Lift Up Your Heads, Ye Mighty Gates   UMH 213

Lighting of Advent Wreath
READER: We light this first candle to burn as a sign of peace among all people. Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, that God may teach us the ways of peace.
CONGREGATION: Gracious God, we seek you everywhere with expectant eyes that invite us to see hope in the world today. Amen.

Prayer of Confession
You call us to wait, to watch, to be ready. But we are so easily distracted, doing so many things. Give us wisdom as we prepare for your coming. Forgive our impatience, restore us by your grace. Shape us into vessels of blessing, for we are your children, longing to serve. Amen.
Words of Assurance
We are the people of God, children loved by our Heavenly Father!
In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven, loved and freed!
Thanks be to God!

“As we wait for the Lord!”

In the still night, we will hopefully wait for the Lord.
