I thank my God every time I mention you in my prayers.” Philippians 1:3-7

Today, in my last message to all my friends at Lower UMC, I want to use the apostle Paul letter to the Philippians to express my love and gratitude for you as a congregation. Just like Paul when I pray for you is always to give thanks for your love and friendship, for your loyalty and perseverance, and for your fruitful ministry!

“I’m thankful for all of you every time I pray, and it’s always a prayer full of joy.” You have welcomed me and my daughter and received us into your hearts. You have validated our ministries and invited us to be part of your ministries. Your love has brought us joy!
“I’m glad because of the way you have been my partners in the ministry of the gospel from the time you first believed it until now.” We have been partners in ministry having fun with our community! Remember the Classic Cars Show when we filled the lawn with Classic Cars and tons of neighbors? Or the VBS where dozens of children would visit different tents for crafts, music, and stories? And that great year where we gathered the community under one big tent for all to hear the gospel? Remember the egg hunts, the Youth Sundays, the Pancake Suppers, the musicals, the Fall Festivals, the Living Nativity, the Good Fridays at the cross? I always smile when I remember what much fun we had!
“I’m sure about this: the one who started a good work in you will stay with you to complete the job by the day of Christ Jesus.” That’s what makes me happy, to know that your ministry to this community will continue to grow and bless all around you! I remember when we celebrated our 300th anniversary, sharing the rich story of Lower UMC to all our neighbors! The seeds planted 300 years ago continue to give fruit of mercy, compassion, and love!
“I have good reason to think this way about all of you because I keep you in my heart.” As we prepare to say our final goodbye, my daughter Julie and I are grateful to you all. We will always keep you in our hearts, we will always love you!
