Newsletter 2018/1

Dear colleagues,

This is the first newsletter of the newly formed Network for the Environmental History of Turkey (NEHT) - Welcome! The Ottoman/Turkish environmental history community is blossoming and our network aims to serve as a scholarly platform where we can share, reflect and gain knowledge from each other's work.

This electronic newsletter will be published quarterly and inform the Ottoman/Turkish environmental history community on news, conferences, new publications, vacancies, fellowships and more. It will also be accessible via the NEHT website (http://www.envhistturkey.com).

I hope you enjoy this first issue of the NEHT newsletter! Do not hesitate to send me your news, questions, and ideas for future newsletters.

The First Conference on Ottoman and Turkish Environmental History

The “Environmental History of the Ottoman Empire and Turkey” conference, organized by the TürkeiEuropaZentrum (TEZ) of the University of Hamburg, took place in Hamburg, Germany on 27-28 October 2017. The conference was funded by the Asia Africa Institute of the University of Hamburg (AAI), German Research Foundation (DFG), and the European Society for Environmental History (ESEH). More...

The Next ESEH Biennial Conference will be held in Tallinn, Estonia on 21-25 August 2019. The conference will be organized by the Estonian Centre for Environmental History (KAJAK) of the University of Tallinn

Doğa ve İktidar

Prof. Joachim Radkau is considered one of the leading representatives of environmental history in the German-speaking world. Radkau's Nature and Power: A Global History of the Environment has been recently published ,n Turkey with the title Doğa ve İktidar: Global Bir Çevre Tarihi.

Originally published in German with the title Natur und Macht. Eine Weltgeschichte der Umwelt in 2000, the book was published in English in 2008 and received the prestigious World History Association Book Award a year later.
