This is the first newsletter of the newly formed Network for the Environmental History of Turkey (NEHT) - Welcome! The Ottoman/Turkish environmental history community is blossoming and our network aims to serve as a scholarly platform where we can share, reflect and gain knowledge from each other's work.

The First Conference on Ottoman and Turkish Environmental History
The “Environmental History of the Ottoman Empire and Turkey” conference, organized by the TürkeiEuropaZentrum (TEZ) of the University of Hamburg, took place in Hamburg, Germany on 27-28 October 2017. Originally published in German with the title Natur und Macht. Eine Weltgeschichte der Umwelt in 2000, the book was published in English in 2008 and received the prestigious World History Association Book Award a year later.
