Potential Legislation Coming

Draft legislation is circulating among national suicide prevention organizations that is aimed specifically at addressing the problem of suicides from bridges. Since the bill is in draft form, no number has been assigned to it yet, although it is expected to be introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives soon. We're following this and will provide more information as it becomes available.
Suicide Film Showing Planned

Bridge Rail Foundation is in the process of arranging a special, local showing of Kevin Hines's documentary movie, Suicide: The Ripple Effect. Kevin is one of the few survivors of a Golden Gate Bridge jump. Since then he has made it his life's work to bring a positive message of help and hope to people who are feeling suicidal, especially teens, which is why he often talks to students in schools. We plan to announce a date and location for the showing soon. It probably will be late summer or early fall in San Francisco.
Pasadena Suicide Bridge

The Colorado Street Bridge in Pasadena (right) had its first suicide of the year in April. Temporary emergency fencing was installed on the bridge in 2017, and suicides decreased 63% the following year. Meanwhile, the City of Pasadena has hired Donald McDonald Architects to design a permanent fencing system fir the bridge. This is the same firm that designed the suicide deterrent system for the Golden Gate Bridge.
