Education AR/VR Opportunities

ED/IES SBIR Program Solicitation - Due Mar 20
Standard ED/IES SBIRs include the following:

Product Innovation.  Bring emerging and innovative forms of learning and instructional technologies to classrooms. See the list of awards here.

Research. Rigorous and relevant research for all projects. This blog describes how one firm received an IES Research Grant for a multi-year efficacy evaluation after the conclusion of its ED/IES SBIR project.

Commercialization. Private sector commercialization after development is complete so that products can be disseminated to schools and be sustained over time. 

Bringing Research and Practice. Advance previous IES-supported or university-based basic research into modern and scalable products ready for commercialization in schools. 

NEW! Phase I proposals for awards of up to $200,000 and 8 months for the development of a prototype of a tool to measure the return on investment (or "ROI") of different education programs and career pathways. The ROI tool is intended to inform decision-making for of students from traditional and non-traditional backgrounds on education and careers. 

The Institutes for Advanced Topics in the Digital Humanities (IATDH) - Due Mar 26, 2019
- supports national or regional (multistate) training programs for scholars, humanities professionals, and advanced graduate students to broaden and extend their knowledge of digital humanities.  Virtual institutes are also permissible.

Medical AR/VR

The Medical Capital Innovation Competition 2019 - Due Mar 15
“AR/VR/XR: The New Reality of Healthcare”
Startups with innovative AR, VR and XR healthcare ideas will have the opportunity to demo their technologies and make their best pitch to an esteemed panel of judges for cash prizes and collaboration opportunities at the third annual Medical Capital Innovation Competition. Submit your AR/VR/XR healthcare technology innovation by March 15, 2019.  $100,000 in cash prizes.


Medical Simulators for Practicing Patient Care Providers Skill Acquisition, Outcomes Assessment and Technology Development  - Periodic through 2022 
Promotes the assessment and further development of simulation technologies intended to improve patient safety and healthcare outcomes provided by practicing patient care providers and experienced (not trainee) physicians. 

Advances in Patient Safety through Simulation Research - Periodic through 2022 
Develop, test and evaluate various simulation approaches for the purpose of improving the safe delivery of health care.
