Flyover Zone started 2023 with a bang by exhibiting its products for the first time at the annual meeting of the Archaeological Institute of America (AIA) in New Orleans from January 5 to 8, 2023. Our goal was to give professional classical archaeologists demonstrations of our two products, Yorescape (our platform for virtual tourism) and our Virtual Museum (currently offering over 1,000 interactive models of classical sculpture). The response was gratifying: by the end of the meeting, over 80 institutions had signed up for our trial subscriptions (for the full list, see below).For many attendees, this was the first time they had heard of Flyover Zone and its products. We had two PCs set up in the booth where our software could be tested. We also brought an Oculus Quest VR headset to demonstrate the beta version of Yorescape, which will be released later this year.
When we asked University of Pennsylvania fourth-year graduate students Molly Schaub and Brigitte Keslinke their reaction when they first tried out Yorescape, Brigitte replied, “we took the tours of Baalbek and the Acropolis. There was a lot of screaming, and we were very excited.” Harvard History Department graduate student Harry Gruber told us that he has long been familiar with Rome Reborn because it’s been used for some time in a course on medieval history at Harvard taught by Prof. Michael McCormick. Harry has served as the TA. “The students really love it. It’s something they don’t encounter in other classes…It’s great stuff.” Others could simply exclaim, “fantastic” (Amy Papalexandrou, University of Texas, Austin) and “amazing” (Matthew Chaldekas, University of Tübingen).
 
The annual meeting of the AIA was the first in a series of exhibitions at professional meetings around the USA where we will have a booth. Here’s where you can find us in the coming months:

June 25-28: the annual conference of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) in the Convention Center of Philadelphia.
