Settlers Hosts Business After Hours, Celebrates 20 years!
On Thursday, July 11th Settlers Bank hosted the Marietta Area Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours. The attendance was more than we expected which was a pleasant surprise. Our guests enjoyed mouthwatering appetizers and luscious cakes from Spagnas Restaurant. Overflowing veggie and cheese trays were provided by Hensler’s Market. Throughout the evening door prizes were awarded from Schafer Leather, Gold Line Jewelry, American Flags & Poles, All-Pro Nutrition and Marietta Adventure Company. Trivia buffs competed for two signed copies of David McCullough’s book The Pioneers. Settlers used the event to kick off our collection of food and school items for Go Packs. We are very thankful for the support from the Chamber staff and cannot wait for next time.

It ain't the heat, it's the humility.

Laura Miller recently joined the Settlers Bank family and rounds out the team as our new Corporate Secretary and Marketing Director. A transplant from California, Laura has been in Marietta for nine years
and loves the charm and friendliness of small-town life. She holds her undergrad and graduate degrees from Liberty University, where she also met her husband, and reason for moving to Marietta, Mike
Miller. With great energy and enthusiasm, Laura has immersed herself into our community serving as a Chamber Ambassador, Rotary President, and sitting on several boards. Laura’s background in public

Welcome, Laura!

Should you be using a VPN? – Virtual Private Network
Internet security experts agree that it is a good practice to use a VPN, or virtual private network when accessing the internet. This is true when using any device to connect. A VPN is one of the easiest ways to avoid getting hacked while you're taking advantage of free WiFi at your hotel, the airport, library or the coffee shop.
VPNs route data sent to and from your device through the service provider
servers. That keeps anyone who’s watching the traffic from knowing what sites you're visiting. It can also mask your identity and location. Ideally, the data is even encrypted or scrambled, so if someone were to intercept it, it would be worthless.
In addition to masking your identity and encrypting your data, some VPNs will stop advertisers and other third parties from collecting information about you.
There are many providers of VPN services. A search of the internet finds dozens of options. The big security providers like Norton as well as independent providers have VPN options. Each provider has a variety of options to consider. These include the number of devices that can use the same connection as well as the number of servers available to route traffic.
It is important to check the details of the service. Some providers sell the consumer data they collect for a profit to offset “free” access to their product. Most providers charge a fee for the service. It is very important to check the privacy terms of each provider. There are online resources like Consumer Reports and PC Magazine that review and rate the products and help with the decision.
VPNs can’t protect you against everything. For example, it won’t protect you from malware and cannot hide your identity from the sites you're visiting. Using a VPN simply secures your traffic from snooping.
Utilizing a VPN is a good idea, especially when traveling. Be sure to carefully evaluate the many options before signing up.
