  • 2/19 – Soccer Tournament - (more details to come)
The Varsity Boys basketball team finished second in the area with a 13-5 record and a tough loss on the road in the area championship game. The season continues in the state playoffs in Sheffield tomorrow, with the winner headed to the Sweet 16. Go Warriors!
The Varsity Girls basketball team took a huge step for the program in their first year in 2A. Being placed in an area with two top 10 teams gave the Lady Warriors numerous challenges and many goals to strive toward in the seasons to come. Defense has become our signature. The Lady Warriors will make you earn your points. While we were considered to be a young team, we will greatly miss the leadership given by our two seniors, Amelia and Haley. The road to success is sometimes hard and difficult, but as the motto for the 2020-2021 school year goes, “we do hard things.” The Lady Warriors did hard things this year and we will be better for it.
The JV Boys basketball team finished the season with a record of 4-6. Due to Covid, our season was cut in half, but we made the most with what God gave us. The boys worked extremely hard week to week, and gave it their all in every game. One of the biggest accomplishments for this team was beating two of our biggest rivals, Lindsay Lane and Athens Bible. We went 2-1 against our rivals overall. This team is a testimony to what hard work, dedication, and having a champion's mindset can accomplish.
The Middle School Boys basketball team finished their season in a tough playoff game against New Hope. Even though they lost, they gelled as a team and played their best basketball at the end of the season. Congrats to Luke Holbrook for being named to the All County team.
The Middle School Girls basketball team capped off a great season and finished at 7-5. They were tied 14-14 at halftime to the eventual champion of their league. In addition to putting in a lot of hard work in the off season, this team came together and had as much fun off the court as they did on it. The future is bright! Congrats to Anna Looser for being named to the All County team.
Grammar School Basketball

After showing improvement throughout the season against a grueling Supreme Courts League schedule, our 5th/6th grade boys basketball team finished their season with convincing wins against a couple familiar private school opponents.

The 4th grade boys basketball team grew and developed tremendously this season. They finished playing tough competition in the Supreme Court leagues on a winning streak, which well prepared them for the local private school teams where they secured big victories.

Our 2nd/3rd grade boys basketball players finished the season on a high in the competitive Supreme Courts League, closing the gap significantly on teams they'd faced earlier in the season.  These groups of young players played a higher level of basketball against stiffer competition than any other group of past Academy kids their age.

The 5th/6th grade Basketball Lady Warriors competed in the Southern Youth Basketball League, and won 13-6 against Elite Travel Team. The Academy was the only Christian school represented, and played teams from all over North Alabama sharpening skills, being complimented on good sportsmanship, and competing as a team.

The 3rd/4th grade Basketball Lady Warriors were able to play 6 games this season, a challenge itself in this pandemic environment. They ended the season with 4 wins and 2 losses. The biggest win was the vast improvement they exhibited in working hard as a team in the short amount of time they had together! These ladies are eager to learn, ambitious, and fierce.

The challenges and growth the Warriors experienced this season will bear fruit for years to come for these young Academy basketball players.
The Warrior Indoor Track and Field Team completed an incredible indoor season at State! Eli Franklin set a school record in the 800m. Brynn Holbrook captured two state titles in the triple jump and 60m hurdles. Emma Cape finished second in pole vault. Overall, the Lady Warriors brought home the Red Map, finishing second place in 4A/5A! We are so proud of these runners!
Bradley Hamner State Farm Athlete of the Month
Each month, Bradley Hamner State Farm, one of our Warrior sponsors, recognizes a Bradley Hamner State Farm Athlete of the Month, and gives a $1,000 scholarship in May to the Athlete of the Year. Congratulations to Maddie Bibb for receiving this month’s award. Maddie is a junior, an outstanding athlete, and a swim team captain. She holds 7 team records, placed 3rd in the state in the 100 freestyle and 7th in the 50 freestyle, and anchored the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays this year. She also made the All-NAHSSL team. We are so proud of Maddie and all she has accomplished as a Warrior!

Cross Country Girls State Runner Up & All State Awards
The girls cross country team had an outstanding season. They went undefeated in the regular season, became section champions, and had a runner up finish at state, all after moving up to compete in the 3A classification.

The team was consistently led by two 8th graders, Amelia Scales and Lucy McGee. These two athletes were given All-State honors because of their performance at the state meet. Amelia has a 5k personal record of 20:59, and Lucy has a personal record of 20:39.

Our warrior tennis players (VB, VG, JVG) started working in November on their game, with matches starting in February. These teams have some talented players who have been working on their skills for years and it shows! Our teams have won every match they have played to date:  VB vs. Hazel Green  9-0, VB vs. Westminster 9-0, VB vs. New Hope 8-1, VG vs. Hazel Green 8-1, VG vs. New Hope 6-3. JVG have their first match next week. If any student in 7th-12th grades has an interest in tennis, please come visit at one of our practices or see Coach Tate at school. We are really interested in having a JVB next year and need some young new start players.

Baseball News
Thanks to a generous donation from one of our parents, we were able to purchase our turtle (portable batting cage), a Hack Attack pitching machine, L-screen, and two 10’ x 10’ fungo screens. The turtle has saved us valuable time during practice and probably a few windshields during the carpool line. The Hack Attack pitching machine has allowed us to challenge our hitters with velocity that we wouldn’t be able to replicate otherwise. It also doubles as a ground ball/fly ball fungo machine and we’ve been able to effectively work on fly ball communication and see a ton of ground balls in a very efficient manner. The fungo screens provide our players the ability to safely work on their infield throwing and double play turns during BP.

Soccer News
Scott Phelts will be developing our curriculum for Spring Soccer Academy, training all of our coaches, and personally working with our 6-12th grade boys alongside Jon Houser once a week in technical development beginning in March. Scott has many years of experience including the Academy Director for DC United.

Boys Soccer kicks off with a tournament @ Madison Academy, Friday the 19th & Saturday the 20th. Last season, Boys soccer made it to the 2nd round of the playoffs. This Season, we are in a new area, and hope to make it at least to the 1st round of playoffs.

Girls Soccer will compete in their first match Monday, February 22nd against Madison County. The team has been practicing for months, and has great momentum going into this season! The girls are extremely motivated to work hard and have their minds set on making it to the playoffs. You can follow us for game updates on our Instagram page @wcawarriorsoccer!

The Grammar Track Team is for 4th, 5th and 6th grades.  No prior experience in track is required. We emphasize learning proper technique, staying injury-free, good sportsmanship and having fun. We plan to start practices the week of March 8, and finish the season in mid-May. Practices are Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, weather permitting, normally from class dismissal to 4:45. We will compete with other HISL teams at 2 track meets. Meets include several running events from 100m to 1600m, plus broad jump and softball throw. Parents can contact Dick Franklin for more information, via e-mail or phone/text (256-529-2078).

This Bible verse has helped me overcome the insecurities that I have felt as a teenager. I feel God has grown me through this Bible verse, and I feel more secure and sure in my faith because of what He has taught me through this verse. – Lillie Harmon, Cheerleader
Prayer is an integral part of Warrior Athletics at every age and in every sport.
