Here's the skinny....
In the Pacific Northwest, June can be unpredictable. When my family moved here from Florida in 1980, our new neighbors encouraged us as we shivered outside: "Don't worry! It gets hot after the 4th of July and summer lasts through September!"  Last year, the region baked in a June heat wave. This year, weather reports joke about overcast "Junuary."

While we're waiting for warmer weather, it's a good time to prepare to share some skin. We'll soon begin to shed our layers and wraps and our skin will take center stage. Is yours feeling a little worse for the wear?

This issue is devoted to all things skin (and some bonus alliteration): skin care lotion, shampoo, a seasonal sugar scrub, a mystery herb that starts with "s," and by request... a first-time handcrafted-from-scratch soap offer! To get the real skinny (sorry for the groaner pun), be sure to check out below.

Here comes the sun!

Homemade Lotion for Happy Skin

Interested in limiting your exposure to chemicals and toxins found in every-day skin care products? This simple recipe makes a great moisturizing lotion that works well in both warm and cold months. If you can make smoothies or margaritas, you can make this lotion! Read more here.
Shampoo Just For You

Looking for a shampoo that's really good for your scalp, your hair and your pocketbook? (Really, does anyone use the word "pocketbook" anymore? But it gets the point across.) This easy herbal recipe can be customized by hair color (natural or otherwise), hair condition and more. Read more here.
Spring/Summer Sugar Scrub

In my first newsletter, I included a super simple two-ingredient recipe for a wintry skin scrub. For a seasonal update that will prepare your skin for real or imagined tropical vacays, substitute white sugar and coconut oil and add 1 tsp. lemon zest. Read original post here.
Luxuriant Soap Offer!

I fell in love with hand-crafted soap several years ago. Turns out I'm not the only one! After sharing my hobby soaps with family and friends for the holidays, I began to get requests for more. In honor of this newsletter's focus on healthy skin, I decided to make several batches in June for family and friends alike.

These soaps are superior moisturizers and especially good for sensitive skin. They contain saponified oils (oils that have reacted with lye to make the soap - so glad high school chemistry is being put to good use!) and either goat milk or rose water. That's it. No harsh chemicals, synthetics, parabens, or petroleum by-products. No artificial colors, preservatives, or fragrances. And to help address deforestation in the tropics, they are also palm oil-free.

If you're looking for soap for sensitive skin or you'd just like to treat yourself, reserve a bar or more by clicking here!

Respond by Saturday, June 16 to guarantee I'll have what you want!

Have you met this medicinal herb yet? It blooms around the summer solstice, treats nerve pain and depression and is a superior wound healer. Read more about one of my favorite plants and skin salve ingredients here
