September Market Update

Housing supply ample as buyers remain hesitant in September

The slowing of sales activity and expansion of overall inventory that has defined much of 2018 for the Fraser Valley housing market continued in September, with sales at their lowest point and inventory at its highest for the year.

The Fraser Valley Real Estate Board processed 1,035 sales of all property types on its Multiple Listing Service® (MLS®) in September, a decrease of 36.1 per cent compared to the 1,619 sales in September of last year, and a 10.4 per cent decrease compared to sales in August 2018. Of those 1,035 sales, 376 were residential detached homes, 250 were townhouses, and 274 were apartments. This was the lowest number of transactions in a month this year for each category.

“Buyers remain reluctant as the market continues to adjust,” said John Barbisan, President of the Board. “We’re seeing good things happening in terms of inventory, but it only opens the door so much while prices are moving at a much slower rate.”

Halloween Trick-Or-Treating Tips

It’s that time of the year again! With Halloween fast approaching, it’s only a matter of days before ghostly ghouls litter the streets in search of tricks and treats. For kids, it’s an exciting chance to dress up as their favorite creature or character and indulge in an overload of sweets — and as parents, you are along for the ride! Make sure your children have a spooktacular Halloween night with these helpful trick-or-treating tips!

Plan a Route Beforehand:

While the prospect of receiving scores of candy can make for an energetic start, it is easy for your children’s energy levels to peter out from continuous walking. Try planning your trick-or-treating route beforehand to ensure that when finished with the night’s haul, you are back at your doorstep.

Pack Nutritious Food As A Snack:

With stacks of candy within their grasp, it’s all too tempting for kids to dig into their stash and end up with a massive stomach ache. Pack hearty snacks like granola bars or fruit to act as a counterbalance to an overindulgence of sugary sweets.

Check And Prepare For The Weather:

Now that we are deep into autumn, a night spent walking through the neighborhood might be chillier than a spooky costume was intended for. Protect your kids from falling prey to flu-season by checking the weather forecast beforehand and bringing along a jacket or other weather-dependent items on your journey. Their costumes will still be scary from the warmth of an insulated jacket!

Hope everyone has a wonderfully spooky Halloween!
