Dear Friend of The Commons,

It’s February 2/2/21, and our plan for today’s news was to honor Love as expressed in February's love-filled holiday - Valentine’s Day. We launched a new Online Featured Collection titled “Love is in the Air” and selected words about Love from a delightful range of sources. We invite you to enjoy our new Collection by visiting our Online website at www.commonseastport.com. where you’ll see beautiful creations featuring hearts, pearls, silver, rare stones, and playful beads — all handcrafted perfect gifts for a loved one.

Yet, there is More News that is dominating Eastport today with the Headline "Raging Nor’easter* Snowstorm”. So, we are also sharing some Views by Eastport’s great photographer, Don Dunbar, who’s work we feature throughout our website. These photos were taken on other days, yet they look like only moments ago. Enjoy Don's photos below along with

Looking back on this day in 1976

2/2/1976 — Groundhog Day Gale in Eastport. That storm raged, with wind and flood waters damaging many downtown structures. Entirely destroyed was the wharf and building housing Wadsworth and Sons Hardware Store, one of those wonderful Downeast places that has everything, and says “If we don’t have “It”, you don’t need “It.” In an act of resiliency that Eastport is known for, the Wadsworth family reopened across the street from their destroyed business. In 2020 we celebrated their 200th Anniversary as “The Oldest Ship’s Chandlery in America” — run by Christopher Wadsworth, grandson of the Wadsworth’s who’s business was destroy by that 1976 Gale — yet they were not defeated. And, the people of Eastport and all around Love Wadsworth’s!
So Valentine’s Day, our "Love is in the Air Collection”, Don’s love of photography, Chris’s love of place. True Love!
