In 1965, The Eyrie Vineyards founder David Lett was convinced that the climate of the Willamette Valley in Oregon was potentially perfect for growing Pinot Noir and he set to work looking for the ideal site. One year later, after much searching, David & his wife Diana found 20 acres of gentle South-facing slope at the south end of the Dundee Hills, which was home to a nest (eyrie) of Red Tail Hawks. They then got to work pulling the old trees of the derelict orchard and preparing the ground for their new vines. They named the site The Eyrie Vineyards.

Being credited with many firsts of Willamette Valley’s wine movement (first planted vineyards, placing in the Top 10 of 1979 French wine Olympiad, organic certification) the Lett family, now 2nd generation, have continued the vision of producing traditional, high quality wines that speak of the place they come from.
