I want to thank parents/guardians for the great turnout at yesterday’s Curriculum Night. We had a packed agenda up front, with breakout rooms for each class to convey individual course information. We will be compiling all of the videos and slide decks and making that available for those who were unable to attend or who missed portions of the evening. Look for that information early next week.

Next week, our ECA Parent/Guardian Involvement (ECA Pi) group will be meeting via Zoom on Thursday, September 15. One thing we’ll be discussing is the possibility of organizing a “15th Anniversary Tailgate” tent for EMU’s Homecoming game on Saturday, Oct. 1. That’s coming up soon, so it would be great to have a lot of involvement in the planning for that event! Here is the login information:   Meeting ID: 811 9904 0479

As you may have heard, the faculty strike at EMU is likely to continue into a second week. According to this Detroit News article, a Washtenaw County judge denied the EMU Administration’s request to order the professors back to work and has set a “show-cause hearing” for next Friday morning. While we are concerned about the continued strike and its impact on our students, we are noticing that many faculty ARE working and holding class. We would like to get more information about how the strike is impacting individual students in our program. If you have EMU classes, please complete THIS SURVEY. It is not anonymous because we want to use it to reach out to students who need assistance.

Finally, in both ECA and EMU classes, things are starting to pick up in terms of homework, and tests and quizzes are being scheduled. Make sure to take advantage of the resources--both at ECA and at EMU--to start strong and stay strong!

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

~Dr. Fischer
