I want to thank parents/guardians for the great turnout at yesterday’s Curriculum Night. We had a packed agenda up front, with breakout rooms for each class to convey individual course information. We will be compiling all of the videos and slide decks and making that available for those who were unable to attend or who missed portions of the evening. Look for that information early next week.

Next week, our ECA Parent/Guardian Involvement (ECA Pi) group will be meeting via Zoom on Thursday, September 15. One thing we’ll be discussing is the possibility of organizing a “15th Anniversary Tailgate” tent for EMU’s Homecoming game on Saturday, Oct. 1. That’s coming up soon, so it would be great to have a lot of involvement in the planning for that event! Here is the login information:  https://emich.zoom.us/j/81199040479   Meeting ID: 811 9904 0479

As you may have heard, the faculty strike at EMU is likely to continue into a second week. According to this Detroit News article, a Washtenaw County judge denied the EMU Administration’s request to order the professors back to work and has set a “show-cause hearing” for next Friday morning. While we are concerned about the continued strike and its impact on our students, we are noticing that many faculty ARE working and holding class. We would like to get more information about how the strike is impacting individual students in our program. If you have EMU classes, please complete THIS SURVEY. It is not anonymous because we want to use it to reach out to students who need assistance.

Finally, in both ECA and EMU classes, things are starting to pick up in terms of homework, and tests and quizzes are being scheduled. Make sure to take advantage of the resources--both at ECA and at EMU--to start strong and stay strong!

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

~Dr. Fischer

After a successful year for our student-run yearbook club, the ECA Yearbook is back to covering the year on campus! We all need a way to remember this (scary/exciting) moment, and that's just what the yearbook is for. So we are seeking creative, outgoing students to help figure out how best to do that.

If you like to write, make digital art, take pictures, or just like chatting with people, fill out this form to apply for a position on the yearbook staff. All students are encouraged to apply, including those in EMU classes. Deadline for applications is Monday, September 19th. Email Mr. Priest (priest@earlycollegealliance.info) with any questions.

P.S. Pre-sales for 22-23 yearbooks are actually open. All books are ordered online via yearbookforever.com. The current price to reserve a copy is $35.

P.P.S. There are still a few copies left of our 21-22 Yearbook, released in June. They can be purchased from Mr. Priest for $45 - cash only,  please!

COVID Safety Info & Vaccination and Testing Resources on Campus

Please review our Safety Reminders: Dos and Don’ts--

DO:

  • Masks are optional at this time for ECA classes. Some EMU instructors may require masks in their classrooms. During times of high transmission, the university may require masks in classrooms and labs.

  • Stay home if you are sick. Go home if you get sick while on campus.

  • Contact the ECA Main Office if you are required to miss school due to illness. State symptoms when you call or email. You may call or email Mrs. Dace (734.487.7882; dace@earlycollegealliance.info)

  • Get vaccinated and report your vaccination status to EMU. (Students must log in using their my.Emich credentials).

  • If you/someone close to you has contracted Covid, you MUST report it to both the ECA and to EMU. To report to the ECA, email Mrs. Dace (dace@earlycollegealliance.info). To report to EMU, fill out THIS FORM

  • Follow up with instructors if you need to miss school.

  • Wash your hands often.

  • Maintain a distance of 3 feet wherever possible.

  • Eastern Michigan University has asked that parents/guardians of ALL students under the age of 18 years complete THIS CONSENT FORM to enable students to work more seamlessly with EMU’s Health and Covid Safety protocols, including testing. Students will still need a parent/guardian present to obtain Covid vaccinations.

  • Call EMU Telehealth if you have any questions. 734.487.3865 or emu_telehealth@emich.edu

DON’T:

  • Don’t come to school if you’re sick or experiencing Covid symptoms.

  • Don’t crowd around others--especially when eating. Spread out!

  • Don’t forget to communicate with the ECA if you are sick or you/someone close to you has contracted Covid, and report to EMU any positive cases.

You can always refer to the EMU webpage that includes all of the latest communication and links from EMU related to Covid-19 on campus--including a link to the Covid dashboard, where information about positive tests are updated weekly.

COVID Testing at the Student Center

On-campus COVID-19 testing is offered in the EMU Campus Testing Center (located in the lower level of the Student Center, next to the Bookstore). On-campus COVID-19 testing is free of charge to all Eastern students and employees.

Fall Hours - Beginning Monday, August 30

  • Mondays - 12:30 - 3:50 p.m.
  • Tuesdays - 8:30 a.m. - 11:50 a.m.
  • Wednesdays - 4 p.m. - 6:50 p.m.
  • Thursdays - closed
  • Fridays - 10 a.m. - 12:50 p.m.
  • Saturdays - closed

The testing process used is a self-administered, non-invasive, shallow nostril swab that circulates around the circumference of the lower nostril area. It is much less invasive than a stick swab that goes deep into the nasal cavity.

Please watch this video as Student Body President Luis Romero demonstrates the test.

For questions regarding symptoms, please contact Telehealth at 734.487.3865 or emu_telehealth@emich.edu.
