It's amazing that we are already finishing Week 4 this week! It was a lovely week on campus, starting out with a decidedly summer feel and then–right on time–switching to fall weather! The garden group did incredible work yesterday in our Memorial Garden (I’ve added a few pics)--thanks so much to the students and parents who helped out!! We have more work to do next month and I’ve added more slots to our sign up if you’d like to take part.

Next week, we have CORE Connections on Friday 9/30–3pm for ALL students. Please see below for room assignments. CORE Advisors will communicate any further details.

New EMU Telehealth Covid Policies for Fall 2022

If your student tests positive, they must stay home for 5 to 10 days. They can return on Day 11, or they can retest starting on Day 6. The student will need 2 negative tests 24-48 hours apart before Telehealth will clear them to return. Most of our students are not getting a negative test until Day 7 or 8.

If your student is a close contact of someone that tested positive for COVID, they will need to stay home for 2-3 days. They may test on Days 2 and 3. Once the student has 2 negative tests 24-48 hours apart, they can return and resume normal activities. At Telehealth’s discretion, a student may be allowed to return without staying home for 2-3 days but will be required to mask at all times while indoors and may not eat with others until Day 11. All students whether they stay home or not must test on Day 5 and any time they develop symptoms.

If your student has (even remotely) COVID-like symptoms, your student must stay at home and test. They will need 2 negative tests 24-48 hours apart. If they have the two negative tests and their symptoms are improving, they may return.

Home tests may be accepted by EMU Telehealth. Here is the process. Complete the test at home. Place the test on a piece of paper and write the students name and the date of the test. Email the test to emu_telehealth@emich.edu. In the subject line clearly indicate that they are an ECA student and what the purpose of the test is for. Example: "ECA Student, exposed to COVID, "ECA student, sick,"  "ECA student, day 3 close contact test," "ECA Student, day 5 covid positive test."

COVID Safety Info & Vaccination and Testing Resources on Campus

Please review our Safety Reminders: Dos and Don’ts--

DO:

  • Masks are optional at this time for ECA classes. Some EMU instructors may require masks in their classrooms. During times of high transmission, the university may require masks in classrooms and labs.

  • Stay home if you are sick. Go home if you get sick while on campus.

  • Contact the ECA Main Office if you are required to miss school due to illness. State symptoms when you call or email. You may call or email Mrs. Dace (734.487.7882; dace@earlycollegealliance.info)

  • Get vaccinated and report your vaccination status to EMU. (Students must log in using their my.Emich credentials).

  • If you/someone close to you has contracted Covid, you MUST report it to both the ECA and to EMU. To report to the ECA, email Mrs. Dace (dace@earlycollegealliance.info). To report to EMU, fill out THIS FORM

  • Follow up with instructors if you need to miss school.

  • Wash your hands often.

  • Maintain a distance of 3 feet wherever possible.

  • Eastern Michigan University has asked that parents/guardians of ALL students under the age of 18 years complete THIS CONSENT FORM to enable students to work more seamlessly with EMU’s Health and Covid Safety protocols, including testing. Students will still need a parent/guardian present to obtain Covid vaccinations.

  • Call EMU Telehealth if you have any questions. 734.487.3865 or emu_telehealth@emich.edu

DON’T:

  • Don’t come to school if you’re sick or experiencing Covid symptoms.

  • Don’t crowd around others--especially when eating. Spread out!

  • Don’t forget to communicate with the ECA if you are sick or you/someone close to you has contracted Covid, and report to EMU any positive cases.

You can always refer to the EMU webpage that includes all of the latest communication and links from EMU related to Covid-19 on campus--including a link to the Covid dashboard, where information about positive tests are updated weekly.

COVID Testing at the Student Center

On-campus COVID-19 testing is offered in the EMU Campus Testing Center (located in the lower level of the Student Center, next to the Bookstore). On-campus COVID-19 testing is free of charge to all Eastern students and employees.

Fall Hours - Beginning Monday, August 30

  • Mondays - 12:30 - 3:50 p.m.
  • Tuesdays - 8:30 a.m. - 11:50 a.m.
  • Wednesdays - 4 p.m. - 6:50 p.m.
  • Thursdays - closed
  • Fridays - 10 a.m. - 12:50 p.m.
  • Saturdays - closed

The testing process used is a self-administered, non-invasive, shallow nostril swab that circulates around the circumference of the lower nostril area. It is much less invasive than a stick swab that goes deep into the nasal cavity.

Please watch this video as Student Body President Luis Romero demonstrates the test.

For questions regarding symptoms, please contact Telehealth at 734.487.3865 or emu_telehealth@emich.edu.
