Send Your Dog To School? Absolutely!

By Sharon Keillor, Owner/Trainer @ Key-Lore Kanine Kountry Klub & Kollege

No matter how large or small, young or old, all dogs need to have some manners and training. Why? Training makes a dog more enjoyable to live with, take on trips and go to the veterinarian, groomers or boarding kennel. Your dog is going to be part of your family for 12-15 years so time spent training is never wasted.

Most dog owners have good intentions. New puppies are dutifully enrolled in the beginning 6-8 weeks of classes around 4-6 months of age. Everyone is excited and expecting great things. The first night of class with dogs goes like this – all of the dogs are overly enthusiastic, somewhat noisy and the person at the end of the leash is working on basic control and walking manners. >>>>>Read More

Trick Training is the Best Way to Bond with Your Dog, LASERwrap® Provides the Power to Perform!
By Sara Carson, Performer w/ The Super Collies

Hero has his own fans after showing off his skills last year on TV, being a finalist on America’s Got Talent, performing in dog shows and teaching dog lovers how to train for new tricks.

— When Sara Carson and her dog, Hero, made it to the finale on America’s Got Talent, the nation fell in love with The Super Collies, who could do everything from handstands to backflips and even “sword” fight.

The question I got asked is how long it took me to train them to be such entertainers. The answer might surprise most; I tell them it’s five to ten minutes a day, and they look at me like I’m crazy. That’s all it takes to have not only a well-behaved dog, but also a happier dog. Happier, because dogs are just like people in that they not only need to be exercised regularly, but also need stimulation. >>>>>Read More

Pet Trust & Pet Custody
By: Torree J. Breen

Our pets are our treasured loved ones and they have risen to the level of our children.  Despite the love and affection we feel for our pets, you may be surprised to learn that your pet would not be treated similarly to a child if you filed for divorce.  Michigan considers a pet as property which means they are treated like a piece of furniture, a car, or a home.  So what will the courts do with your pets during a divorce?  The courts will use the same principles applied to dividing property to determine what will happen to your pet.

Property is divided based on the general principles of equity which means the judge presiding over the divorce will ultimately decide what would be a fair division of the property amongst the parties.  This is a subjective standard.  A judge in one county may have a different opinion than a judge in another county as to what may be considered a fair division of property pursuant to a divorce. This means that the court handling your divorce will likely not spend any time debating a custody arrangement for your pet.  The court most likely will award the pet to one side or the other like it would with a piece of property.
This means that you will need to come to an agreement with your spouse if you want to share the pet after your divorce. This agreement must be put in writing for the court to enforce that agreement after the divorce is finalized.

Detroit Kennel Club Dog Shows

The mission of the Detroit Kennel Club is to provide education concerning the purebred dog through its annual back-to-back dog shows. This is achieved in two ways. In showcasing the many arenas in which dogs registered with the American Kennel Club can participate, the DKC endeavors to raise the awareness of the purebred dog's remarkable versatility. And by providing a unique opportunity for the public to meet dedicated and knowledgeable breeders, it aides and encourages those in the market for a purebred dog to make an informed and appropriate choice.

In addition, the Detroit Kennel Club provides a superior venue for those who own AKC purebred dogs to participate and compete in a variety of events. In return, those participants help the DKC in its efforts to educate spectators on the many facets of purebred dog ownership.
