SPECIAL ELECTION EDITION

Interested in Running for Municipal Council in Muskoka?
Let’s Talk -– Attend April 5th Information Session
This election is crucial!

On October 24th we will be voting for representatives on our municipal Councils. This is our opportunity to be part of shaping the future of our community in Muskoka.

We need councillors who will prioritize responsible development, environmental protection and strong fiscal management - to Respect, Preserve and Protect Muskoka.
  • No more clearcutting and excessive blasting
  • No more residential subdivisions on our shorelines
  • Increased by-law enforcement
  • Protect water quality and mitigate flooding
  • Responsible and transparent budgets and taxation
  • No conflicts of interest
The best way to ensure the voice of waterfront property owners is heard is through strong representation at the council tables. Mayor and Councillor positions are part-time for a 4 year term. Prospective Councillors need not reside full time in the municipality, but they need to reside in the ward/municipality they plan to represent. Both are paid positions, but there is a significant element of public service in these roles.

A virtual Candidates Information Session is being held by the municipalities on April 5th to provide information about running in the election.

The MLA and Friends of Muskoka will be evaluating candidates for Council in Gravenhurst, Bracebridge, Township of Muskoka Lakes and Seguin. We will interview all interested candidates and jointly identify those candidates who are aligned with the values of our combined membership base of over 6,000 voters. We will communicate support for these candidates   in the October municipal election and work with all of Council to Protect, Respect and Preserve Muskoka.

Let’s talk if you are considering running for office. Please email us and let's begin the conversation.

We look forward to hearing your vision for Muskoka.

FRIENDS OF MUSKOKA

Friends of Muskoka are a group of dedicated volunteers working to protect and to preserve the natural environment and unique character of Muskoka by promoting responsible use and development of its land and lakes. Friends of Muskoka believe that the environment IS the economy in Muskoka since millions of people come to Muskoka and invest here because of its clean water and natural, treed shorelines. Our lakes, forests and rivers are a resource that can drive Muskoka’s economy for decades to come if we put the environment first. To this end, Friends of Muskoka is trying to stop residential subdivisions on the waterfront in Muskoka and will work to enshrine sustainable development in the Municipal and District Official Plans.
