Tiree included in the Bumblebee Conservation Trust's GYBB Hunt
While Tiree's Great Yellow Bumblebee Project doesn't have any formal links to the Bumblebee Conservation Trust (BBCT), it looks as though the survey data we collect this year on Tiree will be a valuable addition to BBCT's national GYBbee hunt.
BBCT has identified 28 map grid squares where GYBBs have been recorded in the past but in which they have not been seen in recent years. Tiree's square - grid reference NL93, is at the southern tip of Tiree, and includes East and West Hynish. So if you happen to be down that way, please watch out for GYBBs and let us, and BBCT, know if you spot any.
It is wonderful to think that our efforts on Tiree are being matched in other areas of the GYBB's range in Scotland, and that our data forms an important part of the national conservation effort.
Many thanks to Hugh for bringing BBCT's bee hunt to my attention.
Delay to Tiree's Bumblebee Blitz
Would someone please improve the weather?! This cool, late spring means that we are still waiting for the weather to warm up and settle enough for the GYBB queens to come out in force. Their favourite flowers are at last out in good numbers, so hopefully the queens will follow soon and the breeding cycle can begin. And we can conduct our Bumblebee Blitz!
Thank you for your interest and support.
