As we are nearing Winter Break, we wanted to take a minute to share several opportunities available for students and families to participate in this Winter Break at Charlotte Mecklenburg Library.

  • Story Explorers: Explore books and stories in creative ways through interactive activities in these Winter Break online programs. Choose from Traditions Around the World, Minecraft Pixel Art, Five Languages of Love, Bubble Trouble, and more- or register to attend them all!
  • Family Storytime: Register to participate in an online Family Storytime over Winter Break! Library staff are ready to share their favorites to keep you busy this Winter Break. Twelve Storytimes are available for your family to enjoy, including a special Mother Minter’s Gift of Kwanzaa Storytime, a Winter Festival Storytime, and several “Noon Year’s Eve” Storytimes to help you ring in 2021.
  • Winter Break Reading Buddies and Tutoring: Want to keep your child’s skills sharp over Winter Break? Check out our one-on-one Reading Buddy or Tutoring appointments where your child can log in with a Library staff member to read and learn something new!
Do you wonder what teachers do on asynchronous Wednesdays? This is a terrific video from Mrs. Modine and teachers in each grade level describing what they do on Wednesdays. Bonus - they share insights on other days, too! This is good stuff you don't want to miss! These teachers are working so hard and their love and dedication to our kids continually shines through! Thank you, teachers, for ALL you do! You are seen and appreciated!

Mrs. Allie Rayson!

Mrs. Rayson is a 5th grade teacher at McAlpine.

She is pictured below with her sister, Ms. Shannon Williams, also a 5th grade teacher at McAlpine, during the annual vocabulary parade last year and a selfie on the first day of school this year!
Five-day meal bundles will be available for pick up on Wednesday, December 16 and Monday, December 21 from 10 am – 1 pm at select locations throughout the district.
To assist families through the holidays, families may pick up two meal bundles per child on Monday, December 21 (while supplies last). Families are responsible for managing the storage and consumption of food products throughout this longer-than-usual period. Some foods do require refrigeration or are to remain frozen until consumed. Other products are shelf-stable.

If additional food is needed, bundles will include a flyer informing families how to request a self-referral to Loaves and Fishes.

Weekly meal bundle distribution will resume on Wednesday, January 6.
