Hello Nordic Folk!

The ski season is underway at Macpherson!  Every new snowfall dramatically improves our trail conditions, and the photo above was taken today.  Thank-you to our volunteer groomers!

Here's what's up in the Nordic News:

  • Lantern Ski call for volunteers
  • Headlamp Heroes
  • CCBC Club Membership Contest Results
  • Skookum Nordic
  • Ski League
  • Adult Programs
  • Teck BC Cup
The Lantern Ski is January 1st.

Our annual Lantern Ski on January 1st, 2019, from 5-8pm. This is a free event for members, and non-members are welcome to join as well by paying the regular day rate.

Cookies and Hot Chocolate will be served in both the Day Lodge and the Ole Sandberg Cabin. Please remember to bring your own mug to avoid unnecessary waste.

The lights will be on around our Mickey Olson Loop, and over 100 kerosene lanterns will be set up around Main Loop to guide the way to Ole Sanberg and back to the Day Lodge via one of our new trails!  Even with the beacons of kerosene light, a headlamp is a good idea to help you see and be seen.

Want to Help?  We need some Volunteers...

We have positions that need filling on January 1st: cabin hosts (at both the Day Lodge and at Ole Sandberg), lamp lighters, parking attendants, office assistants and greeters. We would love your help.

Coming Soon!  On Tuesday, Dec 18th, we will be cleaning and filling the lanterns at 6:15. This is about a 2 hour job that works great with 4 or 5 volunteers.

If you can help, please reply to 2brentosh@gmail.com. Thanks!

Headlamp Heroes

Our annual Wednesday Night Race Series is back! We're looking forward to exploring some challenging new race trails, some of which aren't fully lit, thus bringing back the necessity for our namesake... headlamps! These events are open to everyone from seasoned Nordic Nerds to first-timers. In the spirit of this fun event, costumes are encouraged.

Coming Soon!
The first race will take place this Wednesday, December 19th. This season opener, sponsored by the Modern Bakeshop & Cafe, will be an Interval Start Classic race. Registration will be from 6-6:30pm and the race starts at 7pm. Cost is $2 for members (non-members must pay additional trail fees). Tasty prizes will be drawn after the event!

Here's what the season's schedule will look like:

December 19th - Interval Start Classic
January 9th - Skate Sprints
February 20th - Mixed Technique Team Sprints
March 6th - Skate Mass Start
CCBC Club Membership Contest

"If you're not first, you're last..."

Well, we weren't first, but we certainly weren't last (unlike previous seasons). Revelstoke Nordic put forth a phenomenal effort in this season's CCBC Club Membership Contest. At final count, we accumulated 667 members by December 1st; 95% of last season's total membership. Unfortunately, Overlander tallied 97% to claim first place, relegating us to a close second. For full details, check out the CCBC Club Membership Contest Results.

Thanks to everyone for taking part in this drive. It's incredible to see the support, pride, and Nordic enthusiasm demonstrated by our membership. We'll get 'em next season!

Ski League Update

Our Youth Programs have started and Saturday mornings are busy on the trails.

With all the activity and children around, we would like to remind members with dogs that it is especially important to follow club policy and leash your dog in the parking lot and within 200 m of the parking lot on our dog trail. Please keep your furry friend under control on ski trails.

On a fund raising note, if you find yourself with a few empty bottles over the holidays, you may consider donating to our programs. Please inform the clerk prior to counting the bottles at the depot that they would like to donate to RNSC Ski League (Fund 19) or RNSC Nationals (Fund 50). The Ski League fund supports our entire youth programming, while the the Nationals fund directly supports athletes attending the Ski Nationals in Gatineau, Quebec, from March 13th - 20th 2019.

Skookum Nordic!

We are sure that many of you have noticed Skookum's new storefront downtown filled with Nordic gear. Store manager, Kellen Viznaugh, is a former Nordic racer and gearhead who will help get you on the right track.

Skookum would like our membership to know that upon showing proof of membership, members are offered 10% off anything in the store (except sale items) and 15% off packages (skis, boots, poles and bindings).

Thank-you to Skookum for the many ways they support the RNSC.

Teck BC Cup

As you likely already know, the Revelstoke Nordic Ski Club is hosting the Teck BC Cup #2 January 26th and 27th, 2019. This provincial level two-day race will have categories for racers as young as age six all the way to Masters. The race is just over a month away!

We need 60-70 volunteers per day to help with timing, concession, stadium, parking, and on course. Many of you have already contacted me to volunteer. Thank you -  your help is greatly appreciated! If you haven't contacted me yet and are able to help, please let me know as soon as possible.

We need many hands to ensure a successful race we can be proud of. It is fun to be part of the action, provide an opportunity for aspiring athletes, and work with other members of our community. We are looking forward to showcasing our amazing club and community!
