Community College Chancellor Praises Legislature for Budget that Puts Students First

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California Community Colleges Chancellor Eloy Ortiz Oakley issued the following statement regarding Assembly and Senate passage of the 2018-19 state budget:

“On behalf of our colleges, our students and the Board of Governors, I want to thank the Legislature for approving an on-time budget that will help more Californians get the skills and credentials they need to strengthen their families and communities. These investments, which strongly align with our Vision for Success, will help students who have historically been underserved, working learners, full- and part-time faculty, student veterans and students who need financial assistance."

"The budget provides resources to help students facing food and housing insecurity as well as those who need help with legal and mental health services and more.  California’s state leaders have truly delivered on a promise to put students first and set an example for the rest of the nation by adopting a new funding formula that incentivizes student success and creating a new online community college.”
