A New Way to Review Your Tenant Info

Without our valued business partners, DHA would not be able to provide access to safe, decent affordable housing to the 17,500 Housing Choice Voucher families we support.

That's why we have launched a new survey tool to help us gather important information from our landlords about their tenants. We recently sent all of our landlords a communication with a unique link so they can easily review the information, provide feedback, or ask any questions regarding each tenant.

If you haven't already completed the review, please look out for the email from DHA Landlord Services.

Family Self Sufficiency Program Helps this DHA Resident Focus on the Future

Ms. Brown was recently recruited to participate in the DHA Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program by her DHA case worker. Having already completed her education and certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) with a career as a community health worker, Ms. Brown was already focused on achieving self-sufficiency. Getting her two kids prepared for their futures and owning a home are key goals she strives toward.

Moving to Work

Moving to Work (MTW) is a HUD demonstration program for public housing authorities (PHAs) that provides them the opportunity to design and test innovative, locally designed strategies that use Federal dollars more efficiently, help residents find employment and become self-sufficient, and increase housing choices for low-income families. MTW allows PHAs exemptions from many existing public housing and voucher rules and provides funding flexibility with how they use their Federal funds.

While MTW does not provide additional funds to PHAs, it does provide a research team to help design, implement, and measure results for the test programs.

DHA has submitted a letter of interest to HUD to participate in the MTW Rent Reform cohort to examine different ways of determining the portion of rent that the tenant is responsible for. If accepted to the program, DHA will provide a test group of 4,000 voucher participants as well as a control group of 4,000 voucher participants.

The purpose of this rent reform program is to understand better ways of determining the portion of rent that the tenant is responsible for. It will not affect the amount ultimately paid to landlords.

Improving Operational Efficiency in the Housing Choice Voucher Program with Artificial Intelligence Tools

DHA recently announced that it has implemented its first series of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to improve proactive communications and efficiency in the Housing Choice Voucher program.

This effort was launched as a result of on-going collaborative dialogue with the Apartment Association of Greater Dallas (AAGD) and the feedback its members have provided DHA. DHA is paying close attention to market opportunities and concerns to become a better business partner to the private market, with the goal of enhancing access to affordable housing.

Scholarships Change Lives for the Class of 2019

DHA is helping propel North Texas youth to college through scholarships and access to resources to pursue higher education. Last month, Opportunity Rising, the education foundation for DHA awarded 22 North Texas students with college scholarships at their Opportunity Rising Foundation Scholarship Awards Banquet.

The scholarship recipients are from high schools all over Dallas, each with varying interests and educational goals. Scholarships were awarded to high school graduates and returning college students - all of whom are DHA affordable housing residents throughout North Texas.

New Landlord Partner Forms Added to Website

DHA knows that developing and managing affordable housing and supportive resources for our clients and residents is a group effort. We value our landlords as key partners and want to honor their support by providing them with the resources they need to be successful.

To deliver on behalf of our landlords, we’ve created two online forms and added them to the Form Library of our website. These two forms are the Problem Resolution Form and the Report Tenant Move-Out Form.

The Problem Resolution Form focuses on giving landlords an avenue to voice concerns or share issues they’re experiencing, while the Report Tenant Move-Out Form allows landlords to quickly report when a tenant moves out so the DHA team can respond quickly.

Our hope in creating these two forms is to provide an online space for landlords to make their voices heard and share concerns, while also helping DHA to take action on issues in a timelier manner. Both of these forms are now online and available for landlords to begin submitting.
