April 2021
Dear ReflectUS Community,

Happy Spring!

It is with great pleasure and excitement that we introduce the inaugural cohort of the ReflectUS “It Begins Here” Fellowship Program!

These 12 dynamic women leaders, that you’ll meet throughout the year, were selected from an outstanding pool of applicants based on their commitment to their community, their demonstrated leadership and their desire to serve through elected office.

Please join me in welcoming Zena Amran, Nelly Cuenca, Jessica Dunn, Sarah Evans, Prisma Garcia, Ara Grimaldo, Miriam Laeky, Karem Montemayor, Lauren Rangel, Mya Scott, Shelby Taylor, and Fiama Villagrana-Ocasio!

The "It Begins Here" Fellowship program provides fellows the unique opportunity to work with the leading women’s representation organizations for an intensive 12-month program. During the program, fellows will be trained by members of the ReflectUS Coalition to further develop their political leadership and devise strategies towards success in running for office.

As a reminder, the ReflectUS “In Her Words” Media Campaign, which highlights the unique contributions women political leaders bring to our democracy, is still accepting stories.

You can add your story or the story of another compelling woman to the campaign by sharing videos, photos, statements and other media. Visit the “In Her Words” Media Campaign to learn more.

April 27: Shattering the Silence: A Conversation on Sexual Assault

Young women are at especially high risk of sexual assault. Women in college (ages 18-24) are three times more likely to be assaulted whereas women of the same age who are not in college are four times more likely to be assaulted than other age groups. That’s why IGNITE is convening young women from across America to talk about how to end sexual assault and support survivors through policy and activism. Join us as we shatter the silence on sexual assault and engage in a conversation of action for sexual assault survivors and advocates. Visit the registration link.
Become an IGNITE Fellow

IGNITE Fellows are politically active local leaders who organize their communities to flex their political power. Every year IGNITE recruits a cohort of passionate women in communities across America and provides them with resources, training, and networks to mobilize college women to become politically engaged. Fellows serve as ambassadors for IGNITE’s mission and help us spread a national message: it is time for young women to own their political power. Learn more about the Fellowship here
