July 2021
Dear ReflectUS Community,

Happy summer!

I am pleased to announce a ReflectUS groundbreaking new analysis, Ensuring Success: What Happens After Women Win. This issue brief explores the unique barriers facing women in political leadership and examines some solutions to address these challenges. Read the full issue brief here and please share with your networks!

I recently published an op-ed featured in See Change Magazine entitled, "Women's Representation in the Tradition of Black Women Organizers." In this piece, I write about the inspiring women of the Civil Rights Movement and the importance of our building an inclusive women's representation movement. See Change has also featured ReflectUS on their podcast. You can listen to my full podcast interview, "Toward Gender Parity in Government: Tiffany Gardner with ReflectUS" here.

Did you miss our June "Reflections"? ReflectUS Coalition members APAICS, Ignite, Vote Run Lead, and WPLN came together to discuss "The Role of Women's Training Programs in Preparing for Political Leadership." You can view the recording on our Facebook or YouTube channels.

Our next "Reflections" is on August 26 at 7 p.m. ET and is focused on "Changing Systems." Vote Run Lead - Run/51

Women make up 51% of the population in the United States, but just 31% of state legislators. Only one state, Nevada, has a female majority in their legislature! At this rate, it will take at least 60 years to achieve reflective representation in our statehouses. We need a monumental, positive shift where women are the majority in all state legislatures. It's time to make the statehouse, #HerHouse. It's time for RUN/51.

RUN/51 is Vote Run Lead’s sure-fire strategy to achieve women majorities in all 50 state legislatures. With resources for every woman in every state, we will help you run and win. Here are 3 ways to be part of the action:

  • Nominate yourself, or another formidable woman on our RUN/51 page, and you'll receive a 10-week plan to run a successful campaign for the house or senate in your state, get access to coaches who have won legislative races, and join a nonpartisan network of your peers.

  • Get fired up by rewatching our LIVE launch event on Facebook or YouTube featuring incredible women serving in state legislatures and assemblies across the country.

  • Use our new visual storytelling tool to see just how long it will take YOUR state until women are in the majority.

It’s time for a democracy where reform-minded women are the majority of officeholders at every level of government. Are you ready to be the change?

In June, the ReflectUS Coalition members came together to discuss the role of training programs as a strategy to increase the number of women in political leadership. Collectively, ReflectUS Coalition members have trained more than 150,000 women – an impressive feat. Yet, there is still a need for training programs. As our panel of experts pointed out, since women are a minority in political leadership, both support and tactical skills are needed to change this dynamic.

If you were unable to attend, you could watch the recording of the conversation, Reflections: Women's Training Programs in Preparing for Political Leadership

The panelists include Madalene Mielke, APAICS; Shay Franco-Clausen, Ignite; Pakou Hang, Vote Run Lead; and Maureen McInerney, WPLN.
The ReflectUS Coalition has seen its share of press mentions and created a section on our website to keep track of the great work being recognized.
