ReflectUS Celebrates the History-Making Confirmation of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court of the United States

ReflectUS, the national, cross-partisan coalition of the leading women’s representation groups, applauds the United States Senate for confirming Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson as Associate Justice to the United States Supreme Court. By a vote of 53-47, history was made as the first African American, and only the fifth woman was confirmed to our nation’s highest court. Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Judge Jackson brings the most unique judicial experience to the court than any other nominee in the last 100 years. ReflectUS has been advocating for greater representation of women in government, and herald this monumental appointment.

“Today marks a historic milestone for all Americans. Many women and those in the African American community are profoundly moved by Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s confirmation. We celebrate another important step in our nation’s ongoing journey toward a government that is truly reflective of its people,” said ReflectUS CEO, Tiffany Gardner.  “Judge Jackson’s personal story is powerful evidence that, with the right talent, dedication and hard work, no position of leadership is out of reach in our country.”

Today is a proud day for the history of this nation and its Supreme Court. Judge Jackson brings to the bench not only a commitment to the essential constitutional principles of justice and equality under the law, but also a deep and personal understanding of those values, gained over a lifetime of service. The ReflectUS Coalition is confident that a more representative democracy will lead to a stronger democracy. The confirmation of Judge Jackson brings us closer to this goal.
