Resuming Activities and In-Person Worship

There are lessons and activities every week to help you support your family's faith at home. In addition, we'll resume Wednesday evening Zoom calls on February 10th with some games and a fun project. Be sure to pick up your supply packets to be ready!

Here are the essentials for February:

  1. LESSON VIDEOS: If you haven't already, subscribe to the CYF YouTube channel, so the lessons will always be easy to find.
  2. ZOOM MEETUP: Play a game, touch base with friends, and review the lesson. Here's the link. [Meeting ID: 813 6264 8316; Password: FBC]
  3. IN-PERSON WORSHIP: Starting this Sunday, February 7th. Reservations and masks are required, and children will stay with their families. RSVP here.
  4. LIVE-STREAM & ASH WED: Online and outdoor options will likely remain vital to most of us for the coming months. The at-home worship experience will continue to air at 10AM on Sundays on the church website. We will also take a break from Zoom for an outdoor, socially distanced, Ash Wednesday experience on February 17th from 4-6PM. Details are below!
From 4-6PM on February 17th, you are invited to park and approach the overhang where you will receive two items: a gift box of Lenten spiritual practices (perfect for families!) to try over the next several weeks, and a kit with instructions for your household’s Ritual of Ashes.

The Pastors will be available to assist and bless you as you use the Ashes Kit to consider your hurts and brokenness, give those things to God through fire and prayer, and receive the mark of ashes that reminds us of our humanity.

While this simple ritual will not take more than a few minutes, if the weather interferes, you can also receive your gifts in drive-thru fashion. The kit and instructions are not complicated, and will still be meaningful on your own at home.

If you are not able to come by the church between 4 & 6 pm on the 17th, you can request to have your supplies delivered to you. Reserve your gift box now.

During Lent, Bring any new or gently used shoes, preferably rubber-banded in pairs, and donate them in the orange collection box that will be available near the Prayer Wall and in the Narthex.

Let’s add some competition! It’s Kids vs Youth! Send me a picture of yourself with your shoes when you drop them off. Whoever donates the most shoes gets a pizza party and outdoor movie night in April!

This month, we want to be Super Fans for one another, using kindness to show others that they are valuable. Our weekly children's moments and Zoom calls will reinforce the lessons with games and activities. Picking up your supply packets will make it easy and fun to join in from home.

If you've subscribed to the CYF YouTube Channel and "liked" First Baptist on Facebook, you should find everything you need posted, along with some reminders along the way.

We'll start February with a two-week series about how we should treat and connect with others.
WEEK 1: God created us as His masterpiece.
WEEK 2: God created us for connection.

Then with the start of Lent, we will go look at how we can grow stronger, more confident, and deeper in our relationship with God.

WEEK 1: God uses our actions, not just our knowledge, to grow our faith.
WEEK 2: God uses people to grow our faith.
WEEK 3: God uses service to grow our faith.
WEEK 4: God can use tough times to grow our faith.
WEEK 5: God can use our daily habits to grow our faith.

For all the videos and resources, check out the CYF YouTube Channel and if you've "liked" FBCdsm's Youth Group on Facebook, links will post to remind you.

Coming full circle on a year of disruption and facing Spring and Easter without having gotten the "all clear" yet, we have certainly learned to endure. May you and your family be safe and well. May we embrace our February lessons, seeing the Image of God in those around us and showing by our words and deeds how much we value them.

Oh, and Happy Valentine's, too! Parents, if you beat your kids to the Fun Dip, what can I say? They should have looked in their Church Packets sooner. *wink*
