Hope is in the air! Do you feel it?

Parents! Helping you lead your families is at the heart of everything I try to do. I want to see your family thrive and grow in faith, through every season. Help steer my efforts in the coming months by answering four quick questions for a Spring Check-In.

As a thanks for your time, I'll send you the audiobook of Don't Miss It: parent like every week counts by Reggie Joiner and Kirsten Ivy, some great help in making the most of our kids' weeks with us, to impact them forever.

There will be no Zoom on 3/17 or 3/31 due to Spring Break and Holy Week. Find more info below on a special Holy Week Scavenger Hunt Experience you won't want to miss!

Here are the essentials for March:

  1. LESSON VIDEOS: If you haven't already, subscribe to the CYF YouTube channel, so the lessons will always be easy to find. Kid's lessons post by 8AM, youth by 9AM on Sundays.
  2. ZOOM MEETUP: Play a game, touch base with friends, and review the lesson. Here's the link. [Meeting ID: 813 6264 8316; Password: FBC]
  3. IN-PERSON WORSHIP: Reservations and masks are required, and children stay with their families. RSVP here.
  4. LIVE-STREAM & HOLY WEEK: The at-home worship experience will continue to air at 10AM on Sundays on the church website. We will also take a break from Zoom for a Holy Week adventure, March 28-April 3. Details are below. Watch for more info from Pastors Deb and Jim about a Maundy Thursday Tenebrae Service, as well.

Complete an interactive journey, exploring the events of the Passion and downtown landmarks. Complete bonus missions to earn extra points and compete for the overall title! This experience is estimated to take 1 1/2 hours and requires driving, with optional (non-strenuous) activities that include walking and a small purchase.

I highly recommend adding the Goosechase App to your smartphone to compete head-to-head in a scheduled heat against other teams, but you can also receive a printout of the missions to complete at your leisure, just for enrichment and fun. You will choose your option when you register and will receive your links and guide prior to the start of the event.

Reserve your spot now.

FBC has already brought in 50 pairs of shoes! Way to go, Church! Has your family donated yet? You can bring any new or gently used shoes, preferably rubber-banded in pairs, and donate them in an orange collection box. There's one under the overhang and another indoors.
Since I have not received any pictures yet, I'm changing the rules. Let's team up instead of competing. We'll have a yard party for the kids and youth, if our donations reach 200 pairs of shoes, for the whole church. OR if you send me a note with a number when you drop off shoes and we reach 50 pairs, just from our families. My 4th Grader outgrew 3 PAIRS of size 4 shoes that she's only had a couple months (when she was mostly wearing snow boots anyway!), so we'll get this started with those 3, practically brand new pairs of shoes.

What better reminder of how patience pays off, than waiting for the brownies to bake or the cake to cool? There are great examples in the Bible of how it can pay off, if you are willing to wait!

Our weekly children's moments and Zoom calls will reinforce the lessons with games and activities. Picking up your supply packets will make it easy and fun (and tasty?) to join in from home.

If you've subscribed to the CYF YouTube Channel and "liked" First Baptist on Facebook, you should find everything you need posted, along with some reminders along the way.

Our Youth will continue with our series for Lent. We want to grow stronger, more confident, and deeper in our relationship with God. Pick up a supply packet to deepen your learning with daily devotions, and to enjoy the goodies for the Children's Moments (Just in case you've wanted to play along).

WEEK 1: God uses our actions, not just our knowledge, to grow our faith.
WEEK 2: God uses people to grow our faith.
WEEK 3: God uses service to grow our faith.
WEEK 4: God can use tough times to grow our faith.
WEEK 5: God can use our daily habits to grow our faith.

There's a lesson, but no Zoom, for Spring Break. For Holy Week, participating in the Scavenger Hunt is the lesson!

For all the videos and resources, check out the CYF YouTube Channel and if you've "liked" FBCdsm's Youth Group on Facebook, links will post to remind you, as well.

As the snow melts and the days get longer, I remember the poem from Ecclesiastes 3. I like to think of my life in seasons, knowing that no routine, none of my kids' weird phases, also no vacation and no dessert, but, thank God, no hardship either, will go on forever. And as each season passes, I hold on to God's promise that the best is yet to come.

As we all approach this new season, I pray we will embrace that hope and, with thought and intention, be people of light in our family, community, and as a church. May the Holy Spirit inspire new life in us and may we be generous in carrying that life into the world around us.

Pastor Emily
