Ringing in the New Year with Hope

While we are facing another semester of less-than-ideal solutions for our kids, we are also seeing the first glimmer of the light at the end of the tunnel!

Our kids and youth will have weekly lessons and activities to enjoy from home in January. Anyone, big or small, who would like a virtual visit with me should know that I am happy to make a Zoom arrangement or am available by text or message to hear from you and reflect on what you are learning.

We will wait to resume weekly Zoom calls in February, with the hope that we can extend our meetings into summer, when mitigation has hopefully down-shifted and kids are not facing so much extended screen time.

As we start the new year, youth and kids will both have weekly lessons posted on the CYF YouTube channel and supply packets will again be available in the deck box at church to supplement their learning. Packets can be picked up starting Wednesday, 12/23!

Some holiday extras for you!

  1. JINGLE JAM: If you haven't had a chance, yet, enjoy a half-hour Advent party for the whole family! Supplies were in your box, but household items will do, and the video is here. The event is themed around the Advent Candles.
  2. CHRISTMAS EVE AND WORSHIP: this year's we have a special Christmas Eve service is available to stream, starting at 3PM on Christmas Eve. Access it online, at whatever point in your celebration you would like to worship.
  3. ESCAPE FROM THE NORTH POLE: just to provide our families with some extra holiday fun over break, I've put together an online event that you can enjoy whenever you want. Find the link and introduction video here on the YouTube Channel, or interact with other players in the Facebook Event. You are welcome to share and invite friends to this fun activity.

Our January lessons will help kids understand that there are rules we can follow that will bring lots of good things to our lives. To help, your supply packets and our Children's Messages will include some simple, familiar games for your family to enjoy together.

Even when we aren't meeting for Zoom, lessons continue every Sunday on YouTube. Subscribe to the CYF YouTube Channel for an easy link. The printable guide is always in the comments. "Like" First Baptist on Facebook and find links posted each week to remind you.

We are starting 2020 with a two-week series about how we can honor God and gain freedom when we respect the authority figures in our lives.

We'll follow up "Says Who" by starting a 3-week series that is especially relevant to our season, "Through the Darkness." It will help us handle the hardships when life hurts.

A parent conversation guide is included in the January supply packet, but you can look ahead here for a printable copy.

For all the videos and resources, check out the CYF YouTube Channel and if you've "liked" FBCdsm's Youth Group on Facebook, links will post to remind you.

If your student hasn't yet, contact Pastor Emily to arrange to get your FBCdsm Youth Group Annual Gift!

Working with you, the kids, students, and families of First Baptist, gives me tremendous joy and hope for our church and community. Thank you for being such wonderful families to work with!

Happy New Year! I hope and pray that you enjoy a blessed, if unusual holiday and get 2021 off to a solid, hopeful start.

Pastor Emily
