WELCOME TO THE FIFTH EDITION OF
The ECCI Express

Edition Five  ~ 1 July 2021

Message from the President
And just like that, another financial year is over and Exmouth finds itself halfway through another very busy season.

This month we have seen the business hub project continue to move forward holding our first Business Accelerator Workshop and Business After Hours event at the hub. We have welcomed our first long term tenants to the hub; ST Hypnotherapy, Connect Psychotherapy and Gascoyne Gateway. Unfortunately, the official opening to the public has been slightly delayed due to some unforeseen issues with our NBN connection. which we should see resolved by Monday the 12th of July.

We would like to extend the invite to the official grand opening of the Exmouth Business hub to all our members. Come on down and celebrate this momentous achievement on Friday the 13th of August. Please scroll down for more information on this event.

ECCI continue to advocate for Exmouth and our members by attending the recent Regional Chamber of Commerce WA Conference in Perth earlier this month. An incredible opportunity to network with our fellow regional chambers. Scroll down to read more about the conference.
Our next Business After-hours event will be hosted by the Gascoyne Development Commission on Tuesday the 20th of July. This event will coincide with the announcement of the next round of RED's grant funding. A fantastic initiative the ECCI was lucky enough to be a recipient of last year. Make sure you don't miss out and RSVP for these upcoming events.

As part of the chamber procurement process, members of the ECCI have first preference when submitting quotes for works required for our projects.
We currently require carpentry work at our business hub. If you are interested in quoting on this project please contact Sarah on 0400 445 177 or click here to email.

With the opening of the business hub fast approaching the ECCI now also has an opportunity to employ another Exmouth Local in an admin support role helping with the daily runnings of the ECCI and the business hub. If you are interested in the role and would like to obtain a copy of the position description please also contact Sarah on 0400 445 177 or click here to email.

Keep up to date with all the ECCI Events and other business-related opportunities via our online event calendar.

Representing Exmouth at the
Regional Chambers Conference
The Exmouth Chamber of Commerce had the pleasure to attend the Regional Chambers of Commerce Member conference this month.

Day one was held at Hale House where we heard from various Ministers and the Leader of the Opposition discussing their focus on regional business communities. This also offered an opportunity for members to raise any issues of importance through a Q&A session.

Towards the end of the day, we also heard from the Department of Home Affairs discussing the various visa options for employing skilled workers. For more information on these options please click here.

Having access to these ministers in such a respected forum was an incredibly valuable opportunity for Exmouth and its community, important issues such as worker housing and affordable residential flight options were raised, we hope to have a response to share with you all in the coming months.

Day two was an operational and strategy workshop session with the other regional chambers. This was a fantastic day hearing about the challenges other regional communities are facing and how their chambers are helping out.

We also heard an expert economic update - Click here to view the report, and small business briefing from the WA Small Business Commissioner for more information on David's briefing please click here.

The group also had further discussion on the current worker shortages, key member activities and projects, member engagement and events. This was an incredible opportunity to learn from each other and bring back new fresh ideas to our regions.
2023 Hybrid Solar Eclipse Update
Last week the ECCI met with the Project Director for the 2023 Hybrid Solar Eclipse currently working with the Department of Jobs, Science, Tourism and Innovation.

We are pleased to see external assistance being offered for this upcoming event. The ECCI has put forward our concerns for the expected unprecedented numbers we are expecting to see at the event.

The department has put together a project team that will be looking into the needs and risks involved and how best to deal with these issues.

The ECCI will continue to be involved with these discussions and represent the Exmouth Communities concerns and needs as best we can.
Australian Government Seasonal Workers Program Announcement

The ECCI notes that our local hospitality and tourism businesses are affected by the significant reductions in the transient labour force currently available in the country. This recent announcement for a one-off opportunity for local businesses to access an alternative source of tourism and/hospitality sector workers could help ease this pressure.

  • The Australian Government’s Seasonal Worker Program and Pacific Labour Scheme target workers from Pacific Islands, who are primarily recruited from currently COVID-free Vanuatu, Tonga and Samoa.
  • Workers employed under the Seasonal Worker Program are generally unskilled, can work up to nine months and must average 30 hours per week. Workers can return year after year to almost anywhere across the State.
An online information forum will be held on Monday 5 July from 10-11 am on Zoom. To register and receive the Zoom link, please email workforce@dpird.wa.gov.au.

For more information on this announcement please visit our website.

Social Videos & Video Advertising Workshop
Click here to view a sample video created in the Premier Rush App. A free app available for you to create fantastic video content for your socials.
Thank you to Adele from Curly Bird Marketing for presenting not 1 but 2 workshops while you were here in town.

The first workshop was on Social Video's and how to create engaging content for your followers. This type of content you post is all about speaking to your current audience not trying to reach new ones. Try to socialise with your audience in an organic way. Remember if you enjoy creating it your audience will enjoy watching it. HAVE FUN!

Adele introduced us to some of her helpful acronyms to remember when it comes to social media and creating content.

WIFE your audience:
Welcoming (introduction)
Information (things you want your audience to know)
Familiar (create a familiar feel/look)
Engaging (create with a view to grow, ask questions and a call to action.)

When planning for social media consider the BRICK method:
Business Happenings
Impromptu Responses
Community Events
Key Message / Style (Business Values)

The Video Advertising workshop was focused on created paid social campaigns to reach more customers.

During this workshop, we learnt about the steps we need to take to plan a successful campaign.

1. Who is your demographic?
2. What type of key message do you want them to take away?
3. When - create a schedule to match your message
4. Where - place your ads where you will best reach your audience
5. Why are you creating a video ads campaign?

If you missed the workshop you can watch the recording or view the presentation on our website under the resources page.
