Message from the President
Welcome, all to another issue of the ECCI Express! We have had a very busy couple of month in the Chamber. 

We have signed the lease agreement and have officially taken on the old Shire Offices to convert to the new Exmouth Business Hub. Works are well underway and we should see this opening towards the end of this month.

ECCI continue to advocate for Exmouth and our members in finding a solution for worker housing as soon as possible. The chamber continues its ongoing communication with the State Government on this topic and is expecting the EOI to be released as promised by Minister MacTiernan in the coming days.


The program for the 2021 Exmouth Business Accelerator Program has now been finalised and we are very excited to announce the upcoming events we will be bringing to Exmouth this year.
Some of the topics we will be offering at workshops on this year include:

  • Video Advertising, Creation and Online Delivery to Reach More Customers
  • OSH Management Systems (How to maintain or start one from scratch)

$20,000 Secured for the Exmouth Eagles
Alongside the $25,000 Labor pre-election commitment, the Exmouth Chamber of Commerce has successfully secured a further $20,000 kindly donated by BHP. to go toward purchasing a new bus for the Exmouth Eagle Football club!

This additional funding ensures our community will have access to a reliable bus suitable to service the town long into the future.

We thank BHP for its ongoing support.
$100,000 Tourism Technology Funding
It has been identified that Exmouth lacks access to reliable visitation data. Reliable visitation data is essential to make an informed decision and develop a robust long term strategic plan for our community and tourism destination.

Tourism is the major industry and employer and an accurate tool to measure visitation is urgently required.

The ECCI has been successful in securing a further $100,000 from BHP to assist the Shire of Exmouth in developing a solution to capture this data.

A multi-faceted approach to digital visitor data capture will create an effective visitor information delivery and improved pathways to purchase is proposed.

This funding will contribute to the overall concept outlined below:
  • Visitor servicing; improved information delivery via digital platforms, app, and touch screens in high foot traffic locations
  • Booking platforms; improved pathways to purchase for visitors to book and pay for local tours and services
Another great BHP funding initiative.
$10 Billion to Underwrite Insurance Premiums
The Federal Governments has announced a $10 billion reinsurance pool to underwrite insurance cover for cyclone and cyclone-related flood for privately-owned homes, strata corporations and small businesses, and a $40 million investment in making older strata buildings more resilient to extreme weather events, will be established to offer northern Australians more affordable and accessible home and business insurance.
 
The reinsurance pool would cover cyclone and related flood damage in northern Australia from 1 July 2022, and would be backed by a $10 billion government guarantee, reducing insurance premiums across Northern Australia by over $1.5 billion for households, strata and small businesses over 10 years.
 
More than 500,000 residential, strata and small business property insurance policies in Northern Australia are expected to be eligible to be covered by the reinsurance pool.
 
RiskCorp Insurance Brokers have been calling for this scale of investment for over 10 years, and it’s pleasing to see that finally, we have some action from the Federal Government. We look forward to seeing the details of these projects in the Federal Budget next week. We must continue lobbying state governments in the elimination of State insurance stamp duties and levies and improving standards in building codes and land planning decisions.

Exmouth Business Hub
We have keys and the final touches are now being put into place. New Signage, new carpets, new ceilings, new light fixings, a fresh coat of paint and fitted out with swipe card access, CCTV, Bluetooth speaker system, teleconference technology, wall-mounted televisions, modern office furniture, multifunction printer and high-speed internet what more could you want?

The Exmouth Business Hub is like nothing else in Exmouth and we will be fully operational by the end of this month.

If you are needing a hot desk for a day or a few hours, a large board room or a small meeting room, or a private office to work of fo for the day we have you covered.

All spaces are bookable via our online booking platform. We are now taking bookings for post-Monday the 24th of May click here to make a booking.

Workshop 7.0 Social Videos
Creating Engaging Content for Your Followers

What makes an entertaining video that also tells a story about your business? How do you keep your social media followers both informed and entertained? How can a consistent social media presence (especially video uploads) establish customer loyalty and business growth? This seminar will answer all of these questions and more, covering both the practical and creative sides to social video creation for businesses.

In the first hour, we will cover the following subjects:

  • The platforms available for publishing video content
  • The types of videos that work best on each one and how to re-edit to upload to multiple platforms
  • How to find out which platforms are best to reach your customers
  • What is the difference between edited and live content? What should I know when creating each type of video?
  • Locations, storyboards, interview questions and more, what to plan for before you start filming
  • How to create professional-looking content using a smartphone, including filming tips and tricks and some optional add-on equipment to consider
  • Additional practical considerations: watermarks, thumbnails, exit panels, release forms and more…

In the second hour we will guide you through the process of creating a video to upload to social media. We will be sending you a list of fun filming ideas once you register for the workshop so that you can start creating! We will also provide instructions on downloading a trial video editing software, which we will be using to create your very own video content!

Workshop 8.0 Video Advertising

Creation and Online Delivery to Reach More Customers

Creating video advertising for YouTube, Facebook and Instagram can be easy and fun! In this seminar, we’ll take you through the steps you need for running your video ad campaigns. Starting with account creation, all the way through to campaign stats measurement. We’ll also look at the creative ways other businesses are creating video ads at minimal cost and where to look for free or low-cost resources, including graphics and music.

In the first hour, we will cover the following subjects:

  • The platforms available for running video advertising
  • What are the technical requirements of each (video length, aspect ratio, file sizes)
  • How to create advertising accounts on each platform
  • Mini marketing theory… finding your message and market plus goals, objectives and how these relate to measuring ad performance
  • Planning and concepts and filming tips and tricks
  • Advertisement construction – graphics, music, video, photos and more…
  • Uploading your ads, settings and budget options

In the second hour, we will instruct you on creating a video advertisement for your chosen platform. We will be sending you a list of fun filming ideas once you register for the workshop so that you can start creating! We will also provide instructions on downloading a trial video editing software, which we will be using to create your very own advertisement!

Gascoyne Gateway Business After Hours
ECCI members, last month Gascoyne Gateway hosted our first Business After Hours event for the year. Thank you to all who attended we had a fantastic turnout, it was great to catch up with you all, the sunset atmosphere was fantastic.

Digital Health Check Workshop
We had a fantstic turn out the the digital health check we snuck in in March prior to the start of our season.

We were lucky enough to have Jen from Business Local - RSM Australia
presenting the workshop. Jen provided our local businesses with a wealth of knowledge to implement and consider moving forward.

Here are a couple of key takeaways to consider for your business:
  1. B2B often use desktops to research and engage with businesses
  2. B2C are more likely to use devices, so make sure your website is mobile responsive.
  3. Make sure your business is present on Google, 71% of Google traffic is on mobile devices.
  4. Use Google my business to target local customers. Select a primary category that drives the most business for you, then add in secondary categories. Make sure you fill in all the sections about your business including images, respond to every review and post regularly.
  5. Build backlinks to your website. The best backlinks are .gov .edu, however always make sure they are reputable and relevant to your business.
  6. Install Google Analytics on your website
  7. Make sure your website is: usable, the speed is fast to load and use, the home page clearly states what you do, its easy to read and answers your visitor's questions and has a clear call to action.
  8. Introduce an F&Q page to your website to help with SEO.
