WELCOME TO THE SIXTH EDITION OF
The ECCI Express

Edition Six  ~ October 2021

Message from the President
The past couple of months have been huge for the ECCI. The business hub is now fully operational and we welcome the many visitors we have had through the doors for casual room hire, printing and scanning. The Chamber has also taken on a second employee Rita. Rita will be assisting with the daily running of the business hub, she has already proven to be a huge asset to our team and we look forward to further developing and expanding this role into the future.

The successful funding the ECCI managed to secure through Santos and BHP for Base Marine's RTO initiative is in full swing, with Base announcing their first round of training courses at the end of this month, scroll down for further details.

Our Exmouth Business Accelerator Program (E-BAP) has 2 more fantastic workshops to round up the year. Scroll down to keep up to date and secure your free tickets.
Last Friday Peter and Jordan Brodie from GreatWave delivered a workshop on Leadership and Empowering Human Potential, This was a fantastic opportunity for free staff development and businesses to bring along your managers and team leaders.

Your ECCI continues to press the state government to aid us in finding a solution for the worker housing crisis. With ongoing meetings and discussions, we hope to be able to announce further developments shortly.

Another pressing matter on everyone's mind is the impending 2023 Total Solar Eclipse. We have been assisting the Tourism WA working group with any information they may need and are excited to announce a special business after-hours event on Thursday this week providing an update to ALL local business owners. Make sure you RSVP by securing your free ticket online.

Infrastructure WA Survey
The Exmouth Chamber of Commerce was recently requested by Infrastructure WA to create a submission based on feedback from our local business community. This information will allow Infustrature WA to understand what our community believe to be the most important infrastructure investments to help unlock our region.

The survey results reflect the feedback of 53 individuals within the Exmouth Community. 45.28% of survey respondents indicated Worker Housing supply was the number one infrastructure priority. Following this 37.74% said Town Water Supply and 35.85% voting the Minilya-Exmouth Rd Upgrade and Health and Medical Services were a priority. Closely following with 33.96% of survey respondents indicating a priority was also the Town Energy Supply and Waste Management Plan and Implementation.

This feedback has been provided back to the Infrastructure WA team and will be incorporated into their Submission to the state government.

Round Table with Minister Sanderson
The Exmouth Chamber of Commerce had the pleasure of arranging a round table discussion with the Hon. Amber-Jane Sanderson MLA, Minister for Environment, Climate Action and Commerce on Friday last week.

A cross-section of ECCI members from a range of different businesses in town attended. Minister Sanderson addressed the group on the current EPA findings. The stakeholders took the opportunity to discuss an array of issues around the environmental impacts of over-tourism, the importance of eco-tourism and education, recreational fishing zones, water and waste management and the funding requirements for infrastructure priorities and services. To adequately cater to the volume of people we are currently experiencing.

We look forward to continuing to work with the Minister on these issues.

”Our thanks to BHP, Woodside, Mitsui, Santos, Horizon Power, the State Government and the Shire of Exmouth for supporting this initiative and its ongoing support for the Chamber.” - David Gillespie, ECCI President.

The Business Hub has been created to bring together and foster co-operation among members and businesses from all types of industries from commercial, industrial and professional. This legacy project will pave the way for growth and economic sustainability through improving business capacity and confidence.

“Our vision as a Chamber is to become a reliable organisation that can represent its members effectively with robust and meaningful capacity building initiatives, support and representation through local, state and federal governments. In order to achieve this, creating revenue streams and a home for the Chamber was essential. Since our initial discussion with our funding partners in 2019, we have managed to secure over $1.2million to support local businesses and local community initiatives.” – David Gillespie.
The Exmouth Business Hub has a range of different spaces available for hire, competitively priced and purpose-built with the latest technologies, hi-speed internet access and fitted out with new modern office furnishings. WAGES GRANTS - AVAILABLE NOW!
MEMBERS ONLY- Business After Hours

Wednesday 29 September- 5:30pm to 7:30pm

Imagine halving your wage bill for the next year!

The Australian Government has committed to a 4.2 Billion dollar initiative to help upskill the Australian workforce by contributing up to 50% of the wage costs for eligible workers that participate in nationally recognised training.

Navigating the application process is complex and initiating the training takes a bit of work. But the end result is a government contribution to your business of 50% of the gross wages (up to $28,000 per staff member) for those enrolled.

To help you take advantage of this limited-time opportunity, Kensington Financial Group has engaged with consulting firm TGImonday. Their in-depth knowledge of this program and the training sector will assist you to access nationally accredited training for staff, that leverages this current government funding opportunity.

Workplace Leadership
with Peter and Jordan Brodie
We had the pleasure of hosting Peter and Jordan Brodie from Greatwave for a workshop on workplace leadership last week.

With record numbers attending the day was extremely well received with everyone getting something truly valuable to take away with them.

"An insightful course filled with real-life examples of communicating effectively in business and bringing the best out of the people around you. Learning how to simplify your goals and taking the time needed to plan for success"
-  Caitlin Sterry, Manager Visitor Services

We began the day by diving deep into learning all about the clarify tool and how we can use this to truly understand our 100% truth and our 1-year goals. From there we dived deeper into understanding why these goals are important to us and what capabilities we will need to achieve them.

After an amazing morning tea provided by the deli team at Ningaloo Harvest iGA. We went 7 Levels Deep into understanding our why... If you have never spent time doing this before I can highly recommend it.

It goes like this:
Ask yourself 'Why is it important for you to be successful in what you do?"
Then your answer to ask yourself the next why?
Then repeat 7 times to really understand and uncover the real authentic truth behind your why.

For Example:
Q: Why is it important for you to be successful in what you do?
A: So I can be financially secure

Q: Why is it important for you to be financially secure?
A: So I can provide for my family

Q: Why is it important for you to provide for your family?
(repeat 7 or more times)

Following this, we looked at managing your time through the use of Time Quadrants, How to Set Goals and participating in the art of Seeking to Understand communication techniques.
